BOISE, Idaho (9/6/2006) - The Boise State Broncos wrapped up their four match home stand to open the season with a resounding 3-0 win over Utah Valley State Wednesday afternoon at the Boise State Soccer Stadium. Three Broncos scored on the day led by senior Brennan Lau’s goal and assist less than three minutes apart. After an evenly played first period the Broncos broke the match open with three second half goals in a 14 minute time span that gave Boise State their third win of the season.
The first strike and match-winner came in the 65th minute by junior Nicole Tadman. The score was setup when the Broncos attacked down the right flank eventually sending a high arching cross towards the six-yard box. The Wolverines keeper, Tasha Bell, punched the ball away sending it dead center to the top of the 18-yard box. Tadman controlled the ball off the punch and sent it back towards goal with a high lob shot that beat Bell to the high right corner of goal for a 1-0 Bronco advantage.
Up by one, Boise State’s Kristin Hall and Brenna Lau teamed up to extended the Bronco lead in the 76th minute. Boise State reversed the field driving down the left flank with Lau driving towards the corner. As the senior attacked down the wing she cut the ball inside down the left end line and into the UVSC box. She then sent a through ball to the center of the six-yard box where Hall was waiting and volleyed the pass into the back of goal from four-yards out.
Less then three minutes later the Broncos scored an insurance goal to put the match out of reach of the Wolverines. In the 79th minute the Lau duplicated her drive that led to the second goal. She received a pass from the middle of the field, cut down the left flank turning towards goal along the end line. This time Lau fired a hard shot towards the goal from a severe angle that lightly deflected off a defender into goal. That goal gave the Broncos the final three goal margin with 11:58 to go in the match.
Boise State out shot UVSC 22-to-10 during the match and held a 8-to-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Broncos also took seven corner kicks to none for the Wolverines.
Boise State improves to 3-1-0 on the year with the win. They now begin a five match road swing over the next three weeks beginning with Eastern Washington this Friday afternoon kickoff is at 5:00 p.m. (mountain). The Broncos will not play at home again until Sunday, October 1 when they host Texas Christian.
