Soccer Falls 1-0 to Utah Valley at Governor's Cup...

POCATELLO, Idaho (9/3/2010) - Boise State’s soccer team was unable to overcome an early deficit as the Broncos fell 1-0 to Utah Valley in the first game of the Governor’s Cup in Pocatello, Idaho, Friday afternoon. The Wolverines goal in the 13th minute was enough to hold off Boise State as UVU claimed the victory at Idaho State’s Davis Field. Boise State had its chances with 12 corners kicks and 10 shots, unfortunately only three of the shots were on goal as the Broncos struggled with finishing in the loss.

Utah Valley opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Camille Broderick fired a shot from 10-yards out into the top right corner of goal for the early goal at the 12:04 mark.

Boise State had its chances as the Broncos attempted to rally with Cheyenne Jones, Tylyn Hughes and Katy Oehring each placing a shot on target. Unfortunately for the Broncos none of the shots beat the Wolverine’s keeper, Lauren Sack. Six other Boise State players took shots during the 90 minutes but they either missed high or sailed wide.

Junior keeper Liz Ruiz continues to have a solid year. Today the Boise native helped keep the Broncos in the game with eight saves during the match, four in each half.

The weekend’s action will conclude Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when the Broncos (2-3) take on their host the ISU Bengals (2-2-1) in the final match of the Governor’s Cup. Idaho State lost 2-1 to the University of Idaho in today’s second contest.
