The Broncos hit the road to open their 10th season as they face Portland State University and the University of Oregon in Reno, Nevada this Labor Day weekend. First up are the Big Sky Conference’s Portland State Vikings in the opening match on Friday at 4:00 p.m. (Pacific time). The action continues Sunday morning when Boise State takes on the Oregon Ducks out of the Pacific-10 Conference at 11:00 a.m. All matches will be played at the University of Nevada’s Mackay Stadium in Reno.

This weekend’s schedule (all times Pacific):

Friday: Boise State vs. Portland State at 4:00 p.m.

           Oregon at Nevada at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday: Boise State vs. Oregon at 11:00 a.m.

               Portland State at Nevada at 2:00 p.m.

Broncos are 4-4-1 in season openers...

Since it’s inception in the fall of 1998 the Boise State program has gone a combined 4-4-1 in the previous nine years to open the season. They won last year’s opener 3-1 over Southern Utah in Boise. They are 4-2-0 in opening matches played in Boise. Conversely, the Broncos have never won an opener on the road, the closest was a 2-2 draw at Hawaii in 2000.

Boise State is 3-2-2 all-time in Reno...

The Broncos are 3-2-2 all-time in Reno in all competitions. They went 0-2-2 there last year dropping two consecutive 2-1 decisions to UC-Davis and Wyoming. They later recorded two 0-0 draws, the first during league play against Nevada and again in the first round of the WAC Tournament against San Jose State. The Broncos have never lost to the Nevada Wolf Pack in Reno.

Boise State versus Portland State...

The Broncos and Vikings are no strangers to one another as Friday’s meeting will be the seventh all-time in the series. Boise State has dominated the series over the years owning a 5-0-1 record against Portland State. They last met in Boise during the 2004 season when the Broncos defeated the Vikings 2-0 on Aug. 29th. This will be the first time the two have met on a neutral field.

The last time the Broncos and Vikings met, Aug. 29th, 2004...

Kaziah Hill led the Broncos to the victory with a brace (two goals) to start her senior season, assisted by Stephanie Campbell and Lisa Balsama. During the match each team placed five shots on goal with the Bronco keepers (Kim Parker and Michaela Morrison) combining for the five saves.

The Broncos versus the Big Sky...

Boise State is a combined 23-10-4 (.677) all-time versus current members of the Big Sky Conference. The Broncos went 3-1-0 against the Big Sky last year with wins over Montana, Eastern Washington, and Sacramento State, while falling to Idaho State.

Boise State versus Oregon...

The Broncos and Ducks have only met once before with Oregon prevailing 4-1 in Eugene, Ore. to open the 2003 season.

The last time the Broncos and Ducks met, Aug. 29, 2003...

Oregon pulled away from the Broncos in the second half with three goals to claim a 4-1 victory over Boise State. In the match Megan McCoy scored a late goal in the 89th minute for Boise State to put the Broncos on the scoreboard. Four different Ducks recorded goals on the day as they ran out to a 4-0 lead by the 89th minute. The Ducks out shot the Broncos nine to six in shots on goal during the match.

Boise State versus the PAC-10...

Boise State has yet to defeat a member of the Pacific-10 Conference. The Broncos are currently 0-4 against the league with losses to California (2-1), Washington State (2-0), Oregon (4-1), and Oregon State 2-1 dot). The last time the Broncos played a PAC-10 school was last year when they traveled to #13 California on Sept. 22.
