After beating Eastern Washington Friday, the Boise State soccer team was held scoreless in a 1-0 loss to Gonzaga, Sunday at the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex.
The Bulldogs put themselves ahead early, scoring in the sixth minute off a goal from Sarah Rhodes. Katey Pennington was credited with the assist after serving the ball into the box from about 40 yards out on the right side. Rhodes was able to settle the ball 10 yards from the goal and put it past the Bronco goalkeeper, Liz Ruiz.
The two teams played almost level on paper as each side finished with two shots on goal, both of the Broncos' came from forward Ebie Harris. The difference was that Gonzaga found a way to capitalize on one of its opportunities.
Boise State is now 1-3-0 this season. The Bulldogs, who beat Air Force Friday, is now 2-2-0.
The Broncos' next game will take them away from home for the first time this season. Boise State will travel to Moscow, Idaho, to take part in the Governor's Cup, Sept. 2-4. Boise State will look for revenge against Montana, Friday before facing Idaho State, Sunday. The Broncos lost to Montana 4-3 in double overtime during the season-opener this year.
"We'll watch tape and figure out what we need to work on, and do what we can to get ready to go for next week, said head coach Steve Lucas. "Hopefully it's not a lot; hopefully it's just a couple tweaks here and there which is what it may be. We are getting everybody's best shot and that is what we need to be better prepared for."
