BOISE, Idaho (8-22-08) - Three Broncos scored in Boise State’s 3-0 victory over Treasure Valley opponent Northwest Nazarene Friday afternoon at the Boas Complex in Boise to open 2008 campaign. Junior Andrea Huerta scored the match-winner and her first Boise State career goal in the 14th minute to open the scoring for the blue and orange. The win gives the Broncos their third straight season opening victory dating back to 2006.

Twelve new Broncos saw their career debuts for Boise State during the match with two of them recording the first two goals to hand the Broncos a victory. Huerta put the Broncos on the scoreboard first when she rebounded a missed Kaylea Perenon shot that deflected off the crossbar. The rebound fell directly to Huerta’s feet who fired it past the keeper into the net with 13:25 gone in the match.

The Broncos dominated the first period but held only a 1-0 advantage into the intermission before breaking the match open with two second half strikes.

Freshman Chelsea Robinson shined in her first match as a Bronco getting the start at forward, in addition to recording career goal number one. The Portland, Ore., native took just over five minutes into the second period to give the Broncos a insurance goal at the 50:06 mark. Huerta began the play by winning a 50/50 ball near midfield, heading it forward to Robinson. The freshman then drove into the Crusader penalty box one-v-one with the keeper, Pip Herman. Robinson scored with a low shot to the left of the goalie.

Junior Danielle Schwalbe recorded the final Bronco goal in the 72nd minute off a Robinson through-ball. Robinson stole the ball 40 yards out from the NNU goal, then played it through two defenders into the path of a breaking Schwalbe. The junior charged at goal sending the strike to the right of the keeper for the clinching score.

The win gives Boise State a 1-0-0 record to open the season. For Northwest Nazarene the match counted as an exhibition contest and will not count towards their season record. The Broncos will be back in action Sunday, Aug. 24th, when they continue their three-match homestand by hosting the Big Sky Conference’s Eastern Washington Eagles at 1:00 p.m. at Boise State’s Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex. It will be the season opener for the Eagles.
