Meet Soccer's Newest Broncos...

The Boise State welcomed six new Broncos to the team this month as they opened two-a-days last week. The six are made up of one transfer and five true freshmen. Andrea Huerta, a native of Boise, returns home to the Treasure Valley after spending two seasons at NCAA Division II Chico State. Joining Huerta are Jayne Murray of Calgary, Alberta, Cheyenne Jones of Aloha, Ore., Lauren Acker of Fremont, Calif., Shannon Saxton of Beaverton, Ore., and Ginger Sossaman of Long Beach, Calif. Following are the bios for the newest Boise State Broncos.

 

 

Andrea Huerta

5-4, Junior, Forward

Boise, Idaho (Centennial HS / Chico St.)

2006 (Sophomore): Played for the Chico State Wildcats ... saw action in four matches primarily as a reserve at forward ... recorded no points on season ... took two shots ... team went 13-4-4 overall, 12-2-2 in CCAA play to win the North Division ... team lost in the CCAA Tournament championship match.

2005 (Freshman): Competed at Chico State as a freshman ... played in 22 matches at forward ... scored three goals while dishing out two assists for eight points on the year, ranked fourth on team in points and tied for third in goals scored and assists ... recorded one game-winning goal ... took 20 shots placing eight on frame ... team went 15-5-3 overall and 9-2-3 in CCAA action to place second in the North Division.

High School: A 2005 graduate of Centennial High School in Boise, Idaho.

Academics/Personal: Majoring in business management.

 


Lauren Acker

5-4, Freshman, Defender

Fremont, California (Kennedy HS)

High School: A 2007 graduate of J.F. Kennedy High School in Fremont, Calif. ... four year starter for the varsity team ... recorded four goals, and three assists as a junior, and eight goals with six assists senior season ... was a four-time All-MVAL First Team honoree ... named Referee Association Player of the Year as a junior ... MVAL Defender of the Year as a senior ... four year team captain ... named team rookie of the year as a freshman and team MVP sophomore through senior seasons ... academically, made the Honor Roll freshman and sophomore years, and named to the National Honor Roll as a junior and senior ... selected as a "student ambassador" to Europe during junior year ... also lettered in track & field ... set school and MVAL record for 800 meter run ... played powder-puff football senior year and scored three touchdowns in final game ... high school soccer coach was David Acker ... played club ball for the FC Frement Force for one year and the FC Fremont Earthquakes for three ... started all four years as a defender ... three years as team captain ... club coaches were Joe Piexieto and Arturo Colmenaro.

Cheyenne Jones

5-2, Freshman, Midfielder

Aloha, Oregon (Hillsboro HS)

High School: A 2007 graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, Ore. ... a four-year starter in midfield for the Spartans’ varsity team ... scored a combined 29 goals junior (11) and senior (18) seasons to lead the league each year ... three-time All-Metro team honoree freshman thru junior seasons, first team all-conference as a senior ... honorable mention All-State as a junior and first team honoree senior season ... named Gatoraide Rookie of the Year as a freshman ... team won the Metro Division of the Northwest Conference senior year ... advanced to state last two years ... also lettered in tennis and basketball ... four-time member of the student senate ... a two-time honoree on the Oregon Top-10 GPA Team, junior and senior years ... high school coach was John Wallace ... played club ball for FC Portland U-15 through U-18 ... started in midfield for four years ... won four consecutive state championships to advance to the Far West Regional, reached semifinals in 2004 and 2007, while making the final in 2005 ... club coach was Steve Anchetta.

Jayne Murray

Diefenbaker High School in Calgary, Alberta ... played three years of soccer in high school primarily as a midfielder ... also member of basketball, volleyball, and field hockey teams ... as a freshman received the Dorothy Hagerman Award for sportsmanship, dedication, and citizenship ... as a junior named soccer MVP and female athlete of the year ... team captain senior year ... Youth clubs dominate the soccer scene over high schools in Canada ... played club ball for the South West United Football Club of Calgary, Alberta throughout high school years ... played three years for the SWU Storm U-16 through U-18 and the SWU Premiers prior to that (U-15 and younger) ... U-18 squad won the 2006 Alberta Premier Division Provincial championship and placed fifth at nationals ... U-16 team place second at the Alberta Premier Division Provincial championships ... club coaches were Rick Luciani, Maurice Gilet, and Raf Premji ... spent two years on the Alberta Soccer Association Provincial team from 2003-04 ... and a member of the south Alberta winter training team.

Shannon Saxton

5-6, Freshman, Forward

Beaverton, Oregon (Beaverton HS)

High School: A 2007 graduate of Beaverton High School in Beaverton, Ore. ... four year member and three year starter at forward for the Beavers’ varsity team ... scored 50 goals and dished out 16 assists throughout prep career ... recorded 21 goals as a junior followed by 11 goals and 11 assists as a senior ... a three-time All-Metro League honoree including first team recognition junior and senior seasons ... a two-time All-State honoree as a junior and senior ... named team MVP junior year ... team went 15-2-3 senior year and placed second in league with a 7-2-3 mark ... BHS advanced to state three times reaching the semifinals during senior campaign ... also lettered in track & field ... high school soccer coach was Brittini Estep-Carmichael ... played club ball for FC Portland U-15 through U-18 ... started at forward in two of the four years with the club ... won four consecutive state championships to advance to the Far West Regionals, reached semifinals in 2004 and 2007, while making the final in 2005 ... club coach was Steve Anchetta ... spent two years on the Oregon Olympic Development State Team.

Ginger Sossaman

High School: A 2007 graduate of Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, California ... four year member of the Griffins’ varsity team playing forward each season ... recorded 19 goals with 10 assists during prep career ... a two-time first team all-league honoree junior and senior years ... team captain and Offensive MVP senior year ... team won three league titles during her career ... team was ranked in the top-10 nationally the last three seasons by Rivals.com ... high school coach was Patrick Rossi ... played club ball for nationally prominent FC Barcelona U-17 thru U-19, and Cypress Elite Premeir U-14 thru U-16 ... FCB team was ranked in the top-25 nationally in 2007 ... teams won many youth tournament titles during her career including the 2006 Surf Cup in San Diego ... team advanced to the Cal South state cup semifinals in 2006, U-19s ... club coaches were Bryan Kuderman and David Sabet.
