Soccer Picked Sixth in MW Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State women’s soccer received one first-place vote and was picked to finish sixth in the Mountain West preseason coaches’ poll with 81 points. The Broncos return nine starters from last season’s team which finished sixth. San Diego State was projected to win its fourth-consecutive title.

The Mountain West is a 12-team league in women’s soccer, with Colorado College as an affiliate member. The Tigers were picked to finish second this season, their second year in the conference. San Diego State (nine) and Colorado College (two) shared the other 11 first-place votes.

Also in front of Boise State was Wyoming, New Mexico and Utah State. The Cowgirls tallied 96 points in the poll after finishing second last season. The Lobos and Aggies tied for fourth in the poll at 82 points, just one point ahead of the Broncos.

San José State and UNLV tied for seventh at 53 points, while Air Force (43), Fresno State (34), Colorado State (23) and Nevada (17) rounded out the poll.

Three of the five teams picked ahead of the Broncos come to Boise this season. The nonconference schedule kicks off this week, as Boise State opens the year Friday at Samford, followed by a Sunday match at Ole Miss.

Boise State opens its home schedule Aug. 30, against Washington State.
