BOISE, Idaho - Boise State soccer was tabbed to finish third in the Mountain West in 2014 as the conference announced its preseason coaches poll Wednesday.

The Broncos, MW runners-up in 2013 with a 6-3-1 conference record (13-7-3 overall), claimed two first-place votes and 103 points in Wednesday's poll of the 12 conference head coaches. Two-time defending champion San Diego State and 2014 MW newcomer Colorado College received five first-place votes apiece, although the Aztecs edged the Tigers in the point total, 115-112, to top the poll.

New Mexico (88 points), Utah State (82) and Fresno State (73) rounded out the top half of the poll, while the rest of the poll featured UNLV (55), Wyoming (51), Nevada (37), Colorado State and San Jose State with 27 points apiece, and Air Force (22).

Boise State opens the 2014 campaign in Portland on Aug. 22, taking on Drake before closing the weekend against host Portland State two days later. The Broncos first five matches will be on the road before the home opener Sept. 7 at noon against Idaho State.

Under second-year head coach Jim Thomas, Boise State returns seven starters in 2014, a group led by junior Brooke Heidemann (nine goals, three assists in 2013) and redshirt sophomore Kayla Tucker (five goals, three assists) in the midfield and junior defender KT Clayton (two goals, 1 assist) anchoring the back line.
