BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State soccer team held its first intrasquad scrimmage of the season on Friday at the campus recreation turf field, and the white team defeated the blue team by a score of 4-1. The two squads played a full match that included two 45-minute halves in what was a warm, 95-degree evening.

“The first thing was to get everyone through 90 minutes,” assistant coach Ed Moore said. “We wanted to use this as a dress rehearsal for our players, our support staff, and also for us as coaches. We want to go into our opening weekend with the confidence that we can play in the heat and compete well on this turf.”

The scoring started off quick with Raimee Sherle netting an early goal in the third minute, giving the white team an early 1-0 lead. Both defenses tightened up for the remainder of the half, keeping it a 1-0 advantage going into the break.

The second half was a different story as Falon Miller (54’), Eva Herrera (61’) and Scherle (64’) all found the scoring column, giving the white team a 4-0 lead. Freshman Jazel Dennison put the blue team on the board with a beautiful left-footed strike from 30 yards out to make it a 4-1 match.

“I’m really proud and excited to play with the team this season,” Sherle said. “I think we have a phenomenal group and it was fun to be a part of an aggressive match today.”

The Broncos will officially begin their season next weekend with matches against Montana on Friday, Aug. 18th at 5 p.m. and then on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. against Southern Utah. Both matches will be played on the campus recreation turf field, as the Boas Soccer Complex is currently undergoing minor field maintenance.
