Broncos Picked Fifth in Preseason Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State women’s soccer was projected to finish fifth in the Mountain West by a preseason poll of the conference’s coaches. The Broncos return nine starters from last year’s team which finished in a tie for sixth.

San Diego State was picked to win the league with nine of the 12 first-place votes and 119 total points. The Aztecs are the four-time defending regular-season champions. San Jose State, which won the 2015 MW tournament title, earned the other three first-place votes and was projected to finish second with 102 points.

New Mexico (third; 90 points) and Wyoming (fourth; 84) checked in just ahead of Boise State (fifth; 80). The Broncos were followed closely by Colorado College (sixth; 76) and Utah State (seventh; 71).

Boise State opens its season Aug. 19, at home against Idaho State. The Broncos will play nine home games as part of a 20-game regular season in lead up to the Mountain West Championship, Nov. 1-5, in San Diego. The top six teams in the conference standings qualify for the tournament with an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship on the line.
