Soccer Announces 2015 Schedule
July 22, 2015
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's soccer will host two Pacific-12 opponents in the same season for the first time in school history as part of a 20-game schedule announced Wednesday. The Broncos play nine nonconference matches before embarking on an 11-game Mountain West schedule after which the top six teams will qualify for the Mountain West Championship.
Nonconference matches against Washington State and Utah highlight a home slate which also includes meetings with three of the top four teams in the 2014 MW standings.
Boise State begins the 2015 season on the road Aug. 21, at Samford. The opening weekend concludes Aug. 23, at Ole Miss. It will be the first time the Broncos have met either school on the soccer field. The game against the Rebels will be Boise State's first match against a Southeastern Conference opponent.
The next five matches pit the Broncos against regional rivals, including four games at home. The stretch begins with Washington State coming to town Aug. 30, for the home opener. Idaho will be making its first appearance at Boas Soccer Complex since 2011 when the Broncos host the Vandals Sept. 4, kicking off a busy day of Boise State Athletics to start Labor Day Weekend. A road match at Idaho State Sept. 6 wraps up the weekend.
The second Pac-12 foe of the season comes to Boise Sept. 11, when the Broncos host Utah. Since the women's soccer program debuted in 1998, Boise State has hosted three matches against Pac-12 opponents (Oregon, 2011; Utah, 2012; Washington State 2013). Weber State visits Sept. 13, to close out the regional-rival portion of the schedule.
The nonconference slate comes to an end with a trip to the Sunshine State. The Broncos will take on road matches against Saint Mary's (Sept. 18) and San Francisco (Sept. 20). It will be just the second meeting in program history with each school.
The Mountain West schedule begins with a bang as three-time defending champion San Diego State comes to Boise Sept. 25. The road team is 4-0 in the series since Boise State joined the Mountain West. The Broncos' wins in San Diego are two of only three home conference defeats the Aztecs have suffered in the last six seasons.
The first weekend of MW play concludes Sept. 27, with a rematch of last year's conference quarterfinal between Boise State and New Mexico. The Lobos scored in the 88th minute to move past the Broncos 2-1. Boise State finished last season winning four of its final six games, the two setbacks came against New Mexico.
The first road trip of the conference schedule sends Boise State to San Jose State (Oct. 2) and Fresno State (Oct. 4). The Spartans finished seventh last season, but edged out the Broncos 1-0 in Boise. The Broncos used a 90th-minute goal from Kelli Drobney to defeat the Bulldogs.
A split weekend follows as Boise State will host UNLV Oct. 9, and travel to Nevada Oct. 11, before the final home weekend of the year.
The Broncos will seek a bit of retribution from last season when Colorado College (Oct. 16) and Air Force (Oct. 18) come to Boas Soccer Complex. The Broncos were swept by the Tigers and Falcons on a road weekend last season. The home finale against Air Force will serve as Senior Day for KT Clayton, Brooke Heidemann and Kelsey Nicassio.
A pivotal road stretch will end the regular season with the Broncos traveling to Wyoming (Oct. 23), Colorado State (Oct. 25) and Utah State (Oct. 30). The Cowgirls finished second in the MW last season, including a double-overtime win in Boise. Colorado State enters its third year as a program, looking to build on an 11th-place finish.
The Broncos defeated the Aggies in last year's regular-season finale to earn a bid in the conference tournament. Boise State has just one all-time win in Logan.
Once again the top six teams in the regular-season standings will qualify for the MW Championship which will, once again, be hosted by San Diego State. The top two seeds earn a bye to the semifinals. Matches will be played every other day beginning Nov. 3 and running through Nov. 7, at the SDSU Sports Deck.
