BOISE, Idaho - (5/9/07) - The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) has announced that Boise State will host the 2007 WAC Soccer Championship Tournament this November. This will mark the second time that Boise State’s Boas Tennis & Soccer Complex has hosted the league’s tournament, the last time was in 2005.
"This is good for our program and we look forward to hosting it again," commented Steve Lucas, Boise State’s coach. "We will have a large senior class next season and hopefully this will give them a few more home matches. We’re excited at the possibility of playing in the tournament on our field. We always put on good championship events here at Boise State, we’re excited that we will have the opportunity once again to host this event."
The top six teams in the regular season standings will advance to the league tournament with the top two teams receiving byes into the semifinal round. The 2007 edition will run four days from November 8 to 11. The quarterfinals will take place on Thursday Nov. 8th, the semifinals will be Friday Nov. 9th, and the championship will take place on Sunday Nov. 11. All times are yet to be determined.
The Boise State soccer team is entering it’s 10th season this fall and the fifth season at the Boas Tennis & Soccer Complex. In the first four year’s at the Boas site the Broncos have gone 21-10-6 overall. The 2007 Broncos return 20 members from last season’s 7-7-4 squad including two-time All-WAC defender Alli Tsuchida.
The soccer stadium is part of the Boas Tennis & Soccer Complex and is one of Boise State’s newest additions opening in the fall of 2003. It features stadium seating for 750 spectators plus additional seating next to and in front of the bleachers, concession stand, as well as restroom facilities. The complex is located at 1507 S. Oakland Ave. in Boise (below Protest Hill).
