BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's soccer head coach Steve Lucas announced, Thursday, Whitney Peterson of Meridian, Idaho signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos. Peterson was a senior defender at Rocky Mountain High School last fall.

"Whitney has been with a great club team and had a good senior year with her high school," Lucas said. "She is athletic and strong and one of the things we like about her is she is a fighter."

Peterson was a three-year starter at Rocky Mountain, headed by coach Donal Kaehler. She helped the Grizzlies to become 5A Idaho State champions in 2011 as well as second- and third-place finishes in 2009 and 2010, respectively. In 2011, Peterson was selected to the Southern Idaho Conference second team.

In addition to her most recent state championship in high school, Peterson won two club state championships with the Boise Capitals and a third with FC Nova.

"I chose Boise State because I love Boise and all the outdoor activities," Peterson said. "I've enjoyed the area for so long and I love the atmosphere of the campus. I'm excited for the challenge and opportunity to excel on and off the field as a Bronco."

Peterson is one of two Idaho products in the 2012 class to sign with the Broncos. High school teammate Brooke Heidemann will also head to Boise for her collegiate career.
