BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's soccer head coach Steve Lucas announced, Thursday, Bekah Carrasquer of Portland, Ore., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos. Carrasquer is currently in her senior season as a midfielder at Westview High School.
"Bekah comes from a club that we have been recruiting a lot and those types of players have fit in well here," Lucas said. "She is a technical player that plays in the center of the field and she's gritty with some fight, which is part of what we liked about her."
Carrasquer is a three-year starter on Westview's varsity team coached by Chris Martin. The Wildcats have seen success throughout the soon-to-be Bronco's career, making it to the Oregon State Tournament finals in 2009, along with semifinals appearances in 2010 and 2011. During her time at Westview, Carrasquer has been named Dairy Farmers of Oregon Academic All-State in 2009 and 2010.
At the club level, Carrasquer played under Steve Ancheta for Portland Navy 93' where she started in the midfield for four years. She will head to Boise with Olympic Development Program experience, starting three years for the Oregon '94 team.
"I chose Boise State because I like the environment around the campus and city, as well as all the excitement generated by the students for athletics," Carrasquer said.
Carrasquer is one of two 2012 Boise State recruits from the Portland Area, Anna-Marie Popma of Tualatin High School has also signed with the Broncos. The duo will join five current Broncos who hail from the metro area.
