Thomas Adds Two for Spring Semester
Jan. 8, 2018

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State soccer head coach Jim Thomas announced the addition of two local Treasure Valley incoming freshmen who will immediately join the team and begin the 2018 spring semester: Macie Nelson (Borah) and Kennedi Paul (Capital).

“Both individuals are a part of a movement that we’re trying to adopt as a program – bringing student-athletes in at the beginning of January and assimilating them into the team,” head coach Jim Thomas said. “Macie and Kennedi also both obviously fit in with our common theme of keeping the best talent in the Treasure Valley at home here at Boise State.”

Nelson was a 2016 All-Idaho Second Team selection while also receiving 5A Southern Idaho Conference (SIC) First Team honors as a junior. The defender helped Borah to an 11-6-2 record in 2016.

She also excelled as a senior, picking up second team all-conference honors and guiding the Lions to the consolation title at the 2017 Idaho 5A Soccer Championships. Nelson led the Borah defense to nine shutouts and allowed just 17 goals on a 2017 season where the team finished 14-4.

“Macie is an athletic center back who has a ton of composure on the ball,” Thomas said. “She will fit right in to what we do on the back line. We expect her to quickly catch on in the spring semester and be ready for the 2018 season.”

Paul comes to Boise State fresh off a 5A SIC Honorable Mention season where she was the team captain for Capital in 2017. She was named the Eagles’ Most Valuable Player both as a sophomore in 2015 and as a senior this past season.

Paul was a varsity starter her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and also played softball during her time at Capital.

“Kennedi is going to be a left back for us, and already knows the ins and outs of what we do. Being a left-footed player, she will plug in right away and impact the game with her quickness and guile. Our forwards are going to be major beneficiaries of her left-footed crosses.”

Both Nelson and Paul played club soccer for FC Nova.

The remainder of the 2018 incoming class will be announced on Feb. 7.
