Final Stats

LARAMIE, Wyo. - One defensive miscue in the second half is all it took for Wyoming to beat Boise State 1-0 Friday, in Laramie, Wyo. After a deflected Bronco clearance, Mandy Meyer swooped in to fire home a shot from the top of the 18-yard box inside the left post.

Boise State (6-9-3, 4-5-0 MW) put four of its nine shots on goal, but could not sneak a look by Cowgirl goalkeeper Cassidy Entsminger.

Bronco goalie Janelle Flores returned from injury after a five-match absence to make six saves and keep Boise State in striking distance. Flores faced heavy pressure all match. The first half saw Wyoming (8-5-4, 4-4-1 MW) take 10 shots and earn five corner kicks.

The Cowgirls achieved more quality without the same quantity in the second half. Wyoming attempted eight shots after halftime and put six of them on target. Flores made five saves, but could not stop Meyer’s 52nd-minute strike.

Eva Herrera had two shots on goal to lead Boise State, both coming from distance. The Broncos’ best look came in the 79th minute after KT Clayton earned a corner kick. Clayton took the corner and lofted the ball into the box about 12 yards out from the middle of the goal. Laura Buck headed it toward the net but the ball was blocked before reaching the keeper. A scrum ensued, which saw the ball remain within 10 yards of the net for eight seconds while three different Broncos knocked the ball forward. Eventually Wyoming’s wall won out and danger was cleared away.

Despite the return of Flores, Boise State’s defensive unit was still not at full strength. The Broncos were without sophomore center back Jessie Vogel (injury) for the first time in her career and starting right back Madi Campbell missed her sixth consecutive match.

Boise State has two matches remaining in the regular season as they continue to vie for one of the six spots in the Mountain West Championship to be held Nov. 3-7, in San Diego. The Broncos will enter Sunday on the outside looking in, but there is plenty of soccer yet to be played.

The Broncos will travel to Colorado State next. The match is Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
