BOISE, Idaho - Another big moment in a Boise State women's soccer match saw Bronco freshman Raimee Sherle rise to the occasion yet again. Sherle put away her seventh goal of the season in the 57th minute to break a tie and lift Boise State (5-8-2, 4-1-1 MW) to a 2-1 win Sunday, against Fresno State (6-7-1, 1-4-1 MW).

Sherle tore into the box after a loose ball and worked through a number of deflections before finally ripping a shot from five yards inside the near post. The game-winning goal is Sherle's fourth of the year, tying a single-season school record. Her seven goals are the most by a Bronco since Brooke Heidemann scored nine in 2013.

"She's like a little snake in the reeds," said head coach Jim Thomas. "She's always sniffing for the finish. It's hard to coach that. You have to have an instinct for that."

All four game winners have come in Mountain West play, where Sherle has been nearly unstoppable. She has six goals in six conference matches, helping the Broncos to a 4-1-1 start in the league.

Boise State's 13 points through six conference matches put them in second place in the MW standings and two points behind league-leader Utah State. The Broncos' quick start comes on the heels of a 1-7-1 record in nonconference play.

"We've been working very hard," said Thomas. "No matter what you're doing, getting responses from people is a lot of times a reflection of the group you have. We have a tremendous group that was willing to work for what they wanted. You can talk systems this and systems that, but you need a willing group and we have that this year. It has made a massive difference."

Boise State and Fresno State traded looks in the first half, each resulting in a goal. The Broncos took the lead in the 24th minute on Kristina Serres' third goal of the season.

Baylee Blaser fed a rolling through ball from 20 yards on the left side all the way through the box to the feet of Serres sprinting in to the right side of the six-yard box. Serres took a touch toward the end line and ripped a shot near post for her first goal of conference play.

In the closing minutes of the half, Fresno State's Myra Delgadillo found a crease in the Bronco back line and ran onto a pass from Alyssa Holsworth. Delgadillo scorched a shot to the far post for her seventh goal of the season.

Janelle Flores made three saves in net for Boise State and dove on a pair of loose balls in the box during Fresno State's final surge in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Boise State will begin a four-match road trip Friday, at San Diego State. The Broncos will take on the Aztecs, New Mexico, UNLV and Nevada before returning home for the regular-season finale against Utah State (Oct. 28).
