Albuquerque, N.M. - The Boise State soccer team fell 1-0 in its 2012 Mountain West debut at New Mexico, Friday.
New Mexico scored its lone goal in the 69th minute when Stephanie Rowe struck a low ball that snuck past the inside of the far post. The series started after a service into the box that was headed out by Bronco defender Mikhaila Bowden. The ball only got has far as the top of the box where New Mexico's Natalie Jenks poked it out to an open Rowe for the game-winning goal.
The Broncos were determined until the final whistle blew, searching for an equalizer after getting deep into Lobo territory during the final minute. Katy Oehring, Lauren Hickok and Anna Popma each took a crack in the final 30 seconds but came up empty-handed.
Despite giving up the goal, Boise State was the aggressor in the second half. The Broncos outshot the Lobos 12-8.
The Blue and Orange were put on their heels in the first half, conceding nine shots while only contributing three of their own, none of which were on goal.
Hickok led the Broncos in shots, taking five of the team's 15.
Boise State will continue its conference slate with a match against No. 12 San Diego State at home Friday Oct. 5. Boise State defeated the Aztecs last year in San Diego, 1-0.
