Bronco Soccer Falls to Baylor, 2-0

Sept. 22, 2013

Waco, Texas - The Boise State soccer team fell to No. 13 Baylor, 2-0, this afternoon. This was the first matchup for the Broncos against a ranked team this season. The Baylor Bears outshot the Broncos 15-6 and finished with two goals. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Maddy McDevitt made five saves in the game.

Sophomore Anna Popma and senior Ashley Hruby each took a shot on goal for the Broncos. Junior defender Mikhaila Bowden also notched a shot on goal.

"We learned that we can compete against the best teams in the country," said head coach Jim Thomas. "The game was a complete contrast of styles. Baylor plays more of an individual game, such as going after long balls. We are more technically oriented: we make passes to create attacks and look to combine the team together. I'm very proud of our team and especially our ability to match them in the second half. One of their strong suits is winning balls in the air, and we did a good job of breaking them down and staying true to our style. I'm very proud of our performance."

Boise State moves to 5-3-2 and opens conference play on the road next week against UNLV and Nevada. The Broncos will return home to face Wyoming on Oct. 4 and Air Force on Oct. 6.
