Broncos Fall in Final Minute Against Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Boise State soccer team fell in a devastating 2-1 defeat to Navy, Friday, as the Midshipmen put away a goal in the 90th minute to seal the match.

The Broncos had kept the sixth-ranked offense in check for most of the game, but Ashlynn Soellner got free for her second goal of the match when she headed a ball over the Bronco goalkeeper, Maddy McDevitt, at the top of 18-yard box. Soellner returned the ball in front of an open net and scored the game-winner with 27 seconds left on the clock.

Navy got on the board first in the 15th minute when Morgan Dankanich intercepted a pass from the back line and found Soellner who got in behind the defense. Soellner took a touch before sending the ball low past McDevitt.

Boise State found an equalizer off a set piece in the 18th minute after Navy committed a foul about 10 yards inside midfield. Kelsey Nicassio lobbed a ball through the air that came down near the six yard box to the head of KT Clayton who flicked it into the back of the net. The goal and assist each were the first of the two freshmen's careers.

The loss marks the second match of the season that Boise State has let slip in the final minute. The Broncos conceded a game-winner in the final seconds of double overtime against Portland State earlier this month.

Boise State had chances in both halves, tallying 15 shots and five shots on goal. Brooke Heidemann and Katy Oehring led the team with three shots apiece.

Boise State will be back in action Sunday when it takes on Penn in Philadelphia. Kickoff is slated for 10 a.m. MT. Bronco fans will be able to watch the game live by using their BroncoVision subscription HERE.
