POCATELLO, Idaho - Boise State (2-1-1) earned its first road win of the season Sunday afternoon at Idaho State (1-2-0), claiming a gritty 1-0 victory at Davis Field in Pocatello. Baylee Blaser scored the lone goal of the game off a penalty kick in the 17th minute, picking up her fourth goal of the season and the 14th of her career - putting her in a tie for ninth place in the program record book.

The redshirt senior collected the PK with an aggressive move in the box, forcing the Idaho State defender to foul and prohibit a one-on-one opportunity with Blaser and the Bengal keeper. Blaser confidently stepped up to the penalty spot and blasted a hard, low shot into the left corner of the goal, giving the Broncos the 1-0 advantage.

"You could tell by how quickly she grabbed the ball after getting fouled that she was going to not only take the PK, but also make it," head coach Jim Thomas said after the game. "We're obviously hoping for balanced goal scoring and I have no doubt that other players will start to score, but it's been great to see Baylee catch fire and play with such confidence the past few games."

After a 1-1 tie against Idaho on Friday night that was a physically and mentally taxing game, the Broncos did well to edge the Bengals in both shots (18) and shots on goal (8) on Sunday. The Blue and Orange were especially active in the first half and threatened to score again in the following minutes after Blaser's goal.

Sarah Taylor and Michelle Reed both had good looks in the 22nd and 23rd minutes that generated two corner kicks that almost resulted in another goal, but Idaho State was able to keep it a 1-0 game heading into the half.

"With travelling all across the state and playing a grueling match on Friday night, I thought our effort today was fantastic," Thomas said. "We were disappointed that we couldn't find a way to earn three points on Friday, but we made a big effort with the team to refocus and turn things around today - which we did."

Sunday's game was Idaho State's only contest of the week, and they showed signs of fresh legs early in the second half with several threatening opportunities that the Bronco defense was ultimately able to fend off. Boise State would settle in, however, and maintain possession for much of the last 30 minutes.

The Broncos also showed growth in playing with the lead in the last 10 minutes of the game. After being snake bitten by a goal with one second left on the clock on Friday, Boise State was composed in playing the ball to the corners and keeping Idaho State away from dangerous chances in the middle of the field.

Blaser led with six shots while Taylor had three and both Eva Herrera and Michelle Reed managed two. Janelle Flores tallied two saves while Tara Fisher was forced to leave the game early in the second half after making a diving save into the post.

Boise State will return home to the Boas Soccer Complex next weekend and face Cal Poly on Friday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. and Oklahoma on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. Two other neutral games will be played on Boas that will feature Oregon vs. Oklahoma on Friday (2 p.m.), and Cal Poly vs. Oregon on Sunday (11 a.m.).

"We can't wait to get back on Boas," Thomas said. "It was good to get back on grass today as we'll want to get used to our field again. We're excited for Friday night and continuing to carry over the lessons we have learned the past couple weeks."
