WSU Hands Broncos First Loss of Season

PULLMAN, Wash. - The first taste of defeat was a sour one for the Boise State soccer team (2-1-0), as it fell to Washington State, 6-0, Friday.

The Broncos fell into a hole early after allowing a goal in in the second minute off the head of Rachael Doyle. The Cougars would get there second less than 10 minutes later when Michaela Castain put a penalty kick past Bronco goalkeeper Maddy McDevitt.

Two goals down, the Broncos were able to settle in and keep ball in the middle third of the field after playing a lot of defense like they did in the first 15 minutes.

When it looked like the second half could be made interesting, WSU took another shot at the Boise State psyche with a goal in the 47th minute to make it 3-0.

The Cougars would go on to score three more goals in the 63rd, 87th and 88th minutes, respectively.

The six goals conceded is tied for third-most all-time and is the most since New Mexico State score six in October of 2010.

Boise State will conclude its road trip with a 1 p.m. MT match against Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash., Sunday.
