Final Stats

OXFORD, Miss. - Boise State women's soccer closed its season-opening road swing Sunday, with a 4-0 loss at Ole Miss. The Rebels scored in the third minute and never looked back, tallying two goals in each half.

Ole Miss (1-0-1) pushed the pace early, putting a shot on goal in the first 40 seconds as Bronco goalkeeper Janelle Flores made her first of five saves in the match. Flores saved another shot from just off the right post two minutes later, but the rebound was put away for an early goal.

In the 31st minute, a shot from the top of the box beat Flores and Ole Miss took a 2-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The second half began much the same. An early corner kick started another scoring opportunity, eventually finished with a shot from the middle of the box to the upper left corner of the goal frame.

Freshman goalkeeper Tara Fisher made her collegiate debut in the second half, replacing Flores in the 58th minute. Just six minutes in to her first appearance Fisher was forced to face a penalty kick. The Rebels converted the opportunity and took a 4-0 advantage. Fisher played the final 32:35 in net, allowing the one goal and making one save.

The Rebel defense stifled every attacking opportunity as Boise State did not attempt a shot for the first time in school history.

Freshman Allegra Weeks also made her first appearance, coming on at center back late in the first half and playing most of the second half as well.

A pregame lightning delay caused the match to start nearly an hour late. The Broncos (0-2-0) also experienced a lightning delay Friday, at Samford when play was halted in the 56th minute.

The four goals are the most allowed by Boise State under Jim Thomas.

The Broncos will open their home schedule Sunday, Aug. 30, against Washington State. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Boas Soccer Complex.
