No. 13 Broncos Selected as Favorite in 2018 MRGC Preseason Coaches' Poll

BOISE, Idaho -- Boise State selected first in the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, it was announced today by the conference.

The Broncos earned nine total points, including three first place votes, followed by Southern Utah with seven points and one first place vote. Utah State and BYU tied for third place with four points apiece.

On the first place selection, co-head coach Tina Bird said, "We are excited to be ranked first in the MRGC Preseason Poll. It means a lot to be recognized by our peers in a very competitive conference."

The Broncos have won the last three-straight conference titles, and will look for that unprecedented fourth-straight title in 2018 under the direction of 2017 MRGC Co-Head Coaches of the Year Neil Resnick and Tina Bird. Currently the Broncos have been selected No. 13 nationally in the NACGC/W Preseason Coaches' Poll heading into the season, the highest preseason ranking in program history.

The Broncos return 2017 MRGC Gymnast of the Year and 2017 Balance Beam Specialist of the Year Shani Remme, who also earned first team honors on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and all-around. Mary Frances Bir, the 2017 Vault Specialist of the Year also returns for the Broncos. Overall the Broncos return eight 2017 All-MRGC gymnasts including Remme and Bir, along with First Team Vault honoree Sarah Means, First Team Vault and Uneven Bars Courtney McGregor, Uneven Bars First Team selection Sandra Collantes, First Team Balance Beam selection Alex Esmerian, First Team Floor honoree Abby Webb, and Second Team Uneven Bars honoree Ann Stockwell.

Joining 11 returners are five newcomers, Gabriela Bouza (Rio Rico, Ariz.), Tatum Bruden (Peoria, Ariz.), Emily Muhlenhaupt (Castle Rock, Colo.), Rachel Obmann (Roseville, Calif.) and Tessa Otuafi (Reno, Nev.).

The Broncos will open their season on Jan. 11 as they host Southern Utah at Taco Bell Arena at 7 p.m. MT.

The conference championship will be held on March 24, 2018 at Southern Utah.

The Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference is one of only two NCAA Division I gymnastics-only conferences in the nation and is made up of member institutions: Boise State University (Boise, Idaho), Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah), Southern Utah University (Cedar City, Utah) and Utah State University (Logan, Utah).
