Boise State Picked to Repeat in MRGC
Dec. 16, 2016

LOGAN, Utah - Boise State was selected to repeat as Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Champions according to the annual preseason coaches' poll, the league announced on Friday. The Broncos received nine points and three-first place votes while Southern Utah was picked to finish second with seven points and one first-place vote. Utah State and BYU rounded out the poll and tied for third with four points apiece.

The two-time defending MRGC Champions will look to add a third-consecutive conference title this year behind the guidance of the 2016 MRGC Co-Coaches of the Year, Tina Bird and Neil Resnick. Going into their 10th season at the helm, the two co-head coaches have led the Broncos to top-25 finishes in their nine previous seasons with an overall record of 166-56 (.748).

Redshirt junior Sandra Collantes, a 2016 second-team All-American on floor, headlines 10 returners for Boise State. The roster also includes the reigning MRGC Freshman of the Year in sophomore Shani Remme and seven all-MRGC honorees, including Collantes (floor and all-around), Remme (floor), Mackenzie Bennion (vault), Ann Stockwell (vault), Mary Frances Bir (vault), Diana Mejia (uneven bars) and Sarah Means (balance beam).

The Blue and Orange also captured two event titles last year at the conference championships with Bennion and Stockwell winning on vault and Collantes claiming the victory on floor.

After the 10 returners, the five newcomers for Boise State will be led by two of the most heralded recruits in program history; Courtney McGregor and Isabella Amado, both of which competed in the 2016 Olympic Games. McGregor represented New Zealand and took 41st while Amado competed for Panama and finished in 44th in the all-around.

After the two international elites, the Broncos will also enjoy the additions of McKenna Morrell (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Maddi Nilson (Las Vegas, Nev.) and McKinley Pavicic (Las Vegas, Nev.).

On Monday the Broncos were picked No. 15 in the country according to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches / Women (NACGC/W) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Broncos earned 1,400 points in the poll and the No. 15 ranking ties for the second-highest preseason selection in school history.

Boise State will open their season on Jan. 13 in Davis, Calif., in a quadrangular meet that will include host UC Davis, No. 11 Stanford and Yale. The meet will begin at 8 p.m. (MT).
