Bronco Gymnastics Signs Four to 2013-14 Roster

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State gymnastics program and its co-head coaches Neil Resnick and Tina Bird are pleased to announce the addition of four outstanding gymnasts to the 2014 Boise State roster. The foursome of Mackenzie Bennion, Brooke Graham, Diana Mejia and Paige Urquhart recently signed National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period.

Bennion currently is competing in her fourth year as a Level 10 gymnast for Browns Las Vegas under coaches Terry Gray, Wendy McGee and Tatiana Lewis.  Most recently, the Las Vegas native claimed a ninth-place spot in the all-around at the 2012 Region 1 Championships, as well as competing at the 2012 Junior Olympic (JO) National Invitational Tournament. There she placed third on floor, fourth on bars and fifth on vault and in the all-around. Bennion also earned two Nevada state vault titles and the 2009 Region 1 vault title as a Level 9 gymnast.

"Mackenzie is a powerful, dynamic gymnast that will vie for line-up spots on all four events," said Bird. "She is classically trained and beautiful to watch."

Graham joins the Broncos from Corvallis, Ore. The two-time JO National qualifier competes for Multnomah Athletic Club (Portland, Ore.) under coaches Meg Doxator and Ivan Ivanov. Graham, a Level 10 gymnast, finished as the 2012 state runner-up on vault, third-place regional all-around finisher and was a JO competitor on bars and beam. Well-balanced, Graham holds a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) and is a member of the National Honor Society.

"Along with her tremendous physical abilities, Brooke will bring an outstanding work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence to the Bronco program," said Resnick.

Mejia also joins the Bronco squad out of the Multnomah Athletic Club, traveling from her hometown of Vancouver, Wash., to the Portland based club to train and compete. She is the 2010 and 2011 JO National Level 10 Champion on bars, as well as the 2012 runner-up on the event. At the 2011 national meet she also tied for 10 th on balance beam. The Honor Roll student holds a solid 3.5 GPA.

"Diana is the most highly decorated national finisher our program has ever seen," said Bird. "She is a gifted bar and beam worker who will make our team stronger. We look to Diana for her competitive experience, as well as her high level skills and academic performance."

A Minnesota native, Paige Urquhart comes to Boise State from the Twin City Twisters where she is coached by Sami Wozney and Mike Hunger. Urquhart is a two-time Level 10 JO Nationals qualifier where she placed 12 th on vault and 28th in the all-around in 2012. In regional competitions she has earned a third-place finish in the all-around in 2011 and 2012, as well as a second-place finish on vault in 2012. A strong student, she is a member of the Maple Grove High School "A" Honor Roll.

"Paige is a seasoned national level competitor with multiple top-10 finishes at the regional level, as well as being nationally ranked on vault in 2012," explained Resnick. "She is a power-based athlete who looks to make an impact on vault, beam and floor."

The foursome will join a Bronco roster of three seniors, three juniors and six sophomores for the 2014 campaign.
