Broncos Ranked 14th in Preseason Poll

BOISE, Idaho - For the second straight year the Boise State gymnastics team begins its season with the highest preseason ranking in school history. The Broncos head into the 2012 season ranked No. 14 on the GymInfo Preseason Coaches' Poll. The poll, which was released Thursday (Dec. 1), is based on votes from each of the NCAA Division I gymnastics head coaches from across the nation.

The Broncos will begin the season four spots ahead of their 2011 ranking, where they were ranked No. 18 in the preseason. This season's No. 14 ranking is the eighth top-25 preseason spot the Broncos have earned since 1997 (three No. 19 spots, two No. 25, one No. 18 and one No. 21).

The No. 14 ranking sits only one spot behind the team's 2011 final ranking of No. 13, its highest final season ranking in school history.

Boise State will face four opponents in its 2012 campaign who sit among the top-25 in the preseason rankings, including the No. 1 team in the nation. The Broncos will face two tough opponents at the Chicago Style meet on Feb. 10 in Chicago, taking on No. 1 UCLA and No. 15 Illinois. They open their season at home on Jan. 13 against No. 16 Washington, as well as facing No. 7 Oregon State on the road on Feb. 24.

UCLA leads the 2012 preseason rankings with 2011 national champion Alabama taking over the No. 2 spot. Florida sits at No. 3, Oklahoma at No. 4 and Utah at No. 5 to round out the top-five teams in the country.
