Bronco Gymnastics Signs Three to 2011 Roster

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State gymnastics team signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on "National Signing Day", Nov. 11, 2009. The Broncos welcome Rebekah Gher of Phoenix, Ariz., as well as Alessandra Cinfio and Kristen Lieberman of Chicago, Ill., to their 2011 squad.

"We are extremely excited about our new signees," expressed co-head coach Tina Bird. "All three young women are dedicated athletes and students who are passionate about gymnastics and will contribute greatly to our program."

Gher comes to Boise State as a Level 10 gymnast from Oasis Gymnastics in Phoenix. Gher, who is coached by Janine Thompson and Orley Szmuch, will join the Broncos as an all-around competitor. In the 2009 season, Gher qualified to the Level 10 Junior Olympic National Championships in Seattle, Wash., where she placed fourth on balance beam scoring a 9.50. There she also stuck a new competitive vault and scored a personal-best of 9.60 while also placing 25th in the all-around with a 36.825 score.

"Rebekah is a strong, dynamic performer on all four events," said Bird. "We expect her to make an immediate impact in the all-around."

Cinfio and Lieberman are Level 10 gymnasts as well, hailing from the Illinois Gymnastics Institute where they are coached by Todd Gardiner and Amy Blackburn.

Cinfio had a successful 2009 season, placing fourth on floor, ninth on bars, tenth on vault, 11th on beam and seventh in the all-around at the Illinois Level 10 State Meet. She was also a 2009 Level 10 Junior Olympic National qualifier in the all-around, placing 42nd overall.

"Alessandra is an up and coming performer who has a graceful, light nature to her gymnastics," said Bird. "We are excited about the possibilities for her to grow and mature in college. Her consistent beam performances, dynamic floor  and bar routines are what drew us to her, but she has potential to crack into the vault lineup as well."

Lieberman had a successful 2009 Illinois Level 10 State Meet where she placed eighth in the all-around, fourth on vault, fifth on bars, tenth on beam and eighth on floor. She also qualified for the 2009 Region 4 Level 10 regional meet where she garnered a ninth-place spot on vault.

"Kristen shows pure athleticism in her gymnastics," explained Bird. "She is dynamic and most impressive on vault and floor, but is accomplished on bars and beam as well. Our floor and vault squads here at Boise State are in the top-15 in the nation and we expect Kristen to contribute immediately on both of these events."

Bird said, "Rebekah, Alessandra and Kristen will fit into our Bronco family perfectly and help us continue to raise the level of Boise State gymnastics."
