Bird and Resnick Sign Two Gymnasts to National Letters of Intent

BOISE, Idaho Co-head coaches Tina Bird and Neil Resnick are excited to announce the signing of two student-athletes to the 2009-10 Boise State gymnastics roster. Gymnasts Hailey Gaspar (Los Alamitos, Calif.) and Brittany Potvin-Green (San Antonio, Tex.) signed National Letters of Intent this week to become the first two signees to the Broncos’ 2009-10 freshman class.

A 5-foot-4-inch all-around gymnast, Gaspar will bring strong talent in the all-around as well as on vault to the Bronco lineup. Competing for the American Gymnastic Academy under Carol and Shane McIntyre, Gaspar is a four-time Level 10 national championship qualifier. In 2007 and 2008 she earned the runner-up title on vault while also placing eighth on bars in 2008. In the same meet she took sixth in the all-around, making her the highest all-around finisher recruited by the Broncos in recent years. She was the 2007 regional champion on vault, floor and in the all-around while also holding a four-year winning streak on vault at the state championships. A competitive gymnast for 10 years, Gaspar has posted a career-high of 9.80 on vault as well as a 37.90 in the all-around.

“Hailey is a highly skilled and seasoned competitor,” said Resnick. “She is very supportive of her team and is totally a team player.”

Potvin-Green will add depth to the all-around squad, bringing her beam strength to the Broncos’ roster. The 2007 Texas state champion on beam, Potvin-Green boasts a career best of 9.675 on the event. A Level 10 gymnast, she competes for Aerial Athletics under the guidance of Heather Schnelzer. Potvin-Green holds career bests of 9.70 on vault, 9.225 on bars and 9.675 on floor, in addition to her beam score, proving she’ll be a strong all-around gymnast for the Broncos.

Brittany will be a big help on beam for us since it’s an event we’re trying to improve on,” explained Resnick. “She is incredibly talented and a super hard worker. She has the potential to improve every year she is here and will play a role in all events.”

On signing with Boise State, Potvin-Green said, “I am so excited! I feel like I already bleed orange and blue.”
