2016 Slate Awaits Gymnastics
Sept. 17, 2015

2016 Schedule

The 2016 schedule for the Boise State women’s gymnastics team will feature five home meets, one of which will be the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference (MRGC) Championships on March 19. This year’s MRGC Championships will be the first time the Broncos have hosted a conference championship since 2008 when they won the WAC Championship at Taco Bell Arena.

With co-head coaches Tina Bird and Neil Resnick entering their ninth season at the helm of the program, the Broncos will host two premier Big Ten opponents when Ohio State comes to Boise for a meet on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., and Michigan State shortly after on March 6 at 2 p.m. This will be the third-straight year that the Broncos have faced a Big Ten opponent, with having defeated Ohio State (196.025-194.925) last year along with Iowa (196.975-195.350) in 2014.

“We have an extremely tough home schedule this year including Michigan State and Ohio State,” said Resnick. “We have not lost a meet at home in eight years, and we will need all of our fans for the streak to continue.”

Boise State will start the year with a challenging test when they open on the road at Utah on Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The Utes took second places at last year’s NCAA Championships, falling half a tenth of a point short of Florida (197.850-197.800) in the championship meet.

The Broncos will stay on the road and face BYU on Jan. 23 in Provo, Utah, but then will turn around and welcome the Cougars to Taco Bell Arena for their home opener six days later on Jan. 29. With both meets scheduled for 7 p.m., Boise State will look to build on their 14-meet winning streak against BYU.

Two more road meets will await the Blue and Orange when they travel to Southern Utah for a meet on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m., followed by another dual at San Jose State a week later on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m.

After welcoming the Buckeyes on Feb. 19, Boise State will compete in their last road meet of the regular season when they travel to Logan, Utah to take on Utah State at 7 p.m. on Feb. 26.

The latter Big Ten matchup awaits Boise State back home in Boise on March 6, and then just five days later the Broncos will compete in their lone triangular meet of the year when they host Southern Utah and San Jose State on March 11 at 7 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena.

The defending MRGC Champions will then look to defend their title on their home turf when the MRGC Championships takes place in Boise on March 19. The postseason will continue with NCAA Regionals slated for April 2, and then the NCAA National Championships scheduled for April 15-17 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Broncos return five All-MRGC performers in Krystine Jacobsen (First Team Uneven Bars and Second Team Balance Beam), Maddie Krentz (First Team Vault), Diana Mejia (First Team Uneven Bars), Ann Stockwell (First Team Vault) and Sandra Collantes (Second Team Floor Exercise).
