Gymnastics Returns to WAC as Affiliate Member

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State athletics department announced Thursday (June 14) that the Bronco gymnastics team will rejoin the Western Athletic Conference as an affiliate member beginning the 2012-13 season.  

The Bronco gymnastics team competed the 2011-12 season as an independent team after the athletics department made the move to the Mountain West.

"We are thrilled to be back in the WAC and look forward to some exciting competition in the 2012 season," said co-head coach Tina Bird.

Boise State gymnastics will return to the WAC for their 10th season after being members of the conference from 1991-1993 and 2006-2011.During their time in the WAC the Bronco gymnasts have picked up two regular season team titles, three championship meet team titles and have earned 12 individual WAC champion titles.

The 2012 Boise State gymnastics team competed in their first non-conference season since 1994, ending a reign of conference titles. Although they were independent, the 2012 Broncos were as successful as ever, rewriting school record books, competing well in the post-season and ranking in the nation's top-20 throughout the season. 

The 2012-13 WAC gymnastics team members include: Boise State (affiliate), Sacramento State (affiliate), San Jose State, Southern Utah (affiliate), University of Denver and Utah State. The 2013 WAC Championship gymnastics meet will be hosted by Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.
