Broncos Close Storybook Season With Fourth Place Finish at NCAA South Central Regional

NORMAN, Okla. - The Broncos faced some of the nation’s best as they looked to add another chapter in their storybook season, but all good things must come to an end as they closed out their season with a fourth place finish with a score of 194.40 at the 2008 NCAA South Central Regional held at the Lloyd Noble Center, Saturday.

“I’m really proud of the girls,” said co-head coach Tina Bird. “They poured their heart and souls into every aspect of the team this year and put Boise State on the map. This was just another stepping stone in our journey to the next level.”

The Broncos opened the event scoring a 48.800 on vault, with Hannah Redmon leading the way for Boise State as she scored a 9.850 in the event to place in a tie for seventh. Boise State’s next highest finisher was freshman Amy Glass who finished knotted in a three-way tie for 17th with a 9.775. Shaniece Craft, Amber Neroes and Lindsay Ward had strong performances, posting a score of 9.725 to finish in a six way tie for 26th. Not to be overlooked was sophomore Ruthie Pennington who notched a 9.700, good enough to tie for 32nd.

After a bye in the second rotation, Boise State moved to bars in the third, tallying a team score of 48.900, its fifth highest score on bars this season. Leading the way for the Broncos was Taylor Jacob as she recorded a score of 9.850 to finish in a five-way tie for third place in the event. Proving to be a force to be reckoned with was Redmon, who tallied a 9.800 to place in a tie for 12th while teammate Cassie Tycast followed close behind with a score of 9.775, knotting her up for a 16th place finish. Freshman Mallory Dziawura finished the event with a 9.750 to tie for 19th while Neroes notched a 9.725, good for a three-way tie at 24th. Rounding out the contingent was Ward as she recorded a 9.700 in the event to tie for 29th.

The fourth rotation appeared to be the toughest for the Broncos with a few wobbles and falls on beam. Jacob and Ward were the definite highlights for Boise State as they each notched a 9.750 to tie for 10th. Nereos earned a 9.60 to finish 26th, while Kelsey Lang posted a score of 9.400 to place 32nd. Glass scored a 9.20 to tie for 35th, while Redmon counted a fall to score a 8.90 and place in a tie for 40th.

With three events under their belt, the Broncos had a bye in the fifth rotation, as they patiently awaited their turn on floor. Entering the sixth and final rotation, the Broncos knew exactly what they needed to do in order to claim one of the two top spots in order to advance. Leading the way for Boise State yet again was Redmon as she notched an impressive 9.90 on floor to take third place, finishing just .25 points shy of the individual title. Freshman Sarah Smith made her presence known after posting a score of 9.825 to finish in a tie for 12th. Glass, who lead it off for the Broncos, recorded a 9.775 to tie for 20th, edging out teammates Jacob and Lang who each tallied a 9.750 to tie for 23rd. Leizorek rounded out the lineup with a 9.650 to finish knotted in a tie for 34th.

In addition to the Broncos success on the floor, coaches Neil Resnick and Tina Bird were recognized by their peers as they were named the NCAA West Region Co-Coaches of the Year.
