Boise State Gymnastics is Oklahoma-Bound to Compete in the 2008 NCAA South Central Region Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The wait is over for the No. 16-ranked Boise State gymnastics team as the 2008 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships regional selections were announced Monday afternoon by the NCAA. The Broncos have been placed in the South Central Regional hosted by the University of Oklahoma on Saturday, April 12.

There they will face No. 4 Alabama, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 19 Arizona State, No. 24 Illinois, and No. 36 Southeast Missouri State. They have faced only Arizona State in their regular season schedule, but earned a 196.00-194.550 win over the Sun Devils.

Boise State drew a regular rotation schedule, beginning on vault. Set up just like the six-team Western Athletic Conference Championships this past Saturday, the competition will consist of the four events as well as two byes. The Broncos will have a bye in rotation two, followed by bars in rotation three and beam in rotation four. Rotation five will be the Broncos’ second bye, therefore allowing them to end their competition on one of their strongest events, the floor exercise.

Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Athens, Georgia, April 24-26, hosted by the University of Georgia.

In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

Information on the South Central Region in Norman, Oklahoma is available on the University of Oklahoma Sooners website.

The qualifying teams and individuals are listed below. All regionals, except for the Southeast, will be conducted at 6 p.m. local time, Saturday, April 12. The Southeast regional is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, April 12.
