Potvin-Green Chases School Record in Win Over SUU

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The No. 15-ranked Boise State gymnastics team earned the fifth-best team score in school history Friday evening (March 16) en route to a win over No. 45-ranked Southern Utah at the Centrum Arena. The Broncos (9-4) earned a 196.850-195.875 win over the Thunderbirds (3-12), improving to 26-20 over SUU in the all-time series. Junior Brittany Potvin-Green had a career night, tying the second-best all-around score in school history, winning her fourth title this season.

Boise State earned wins on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise as a team, while also earning individual titles on all three events, as well as the all-around. Southern Utah earned the team win on balance beam, while also capturing the individual title on the event.

Potvin-Green earned the all-around title, scoring a career-best of 39.575 and tying for the second-best all-around score by any Bronco ever. The win marked her fourth all-around win of the season, as well as her career. Her fourth win moves her to a tie for No. 6 in single season all-around wins at Boise State.

"Brittany had a great night tonight," said co-head coach Tina Bird. "She did some exciting gymnastics, but it was a true team effort from top to bottom. Senior Lindsay Kazandjian was a superstar on bars and beam. I'm so proud of her. Amanda did so great tonight as well. She was really rooting her teammates on and stuck an amazing vault to earn a 9.90!"

The Broncos opened up the evening on bars, earning a 49.350 score, the best for this season and fourth-best team score on bars in school history. Amy Glass didn't miss a beat after sitting out the past two weeks from competition. The redshirt senior led the Broncos on bars, earning a 9.925, tying her career-best, as well as the seventh-best score on the event in school history. The season-best mark for Glass earned her the win on Friday, moving her to a tie for ninth in Boise State career bars wins (6). Freshman Ciera Perkins placed second on bars, tying her career-best of 9.90. Potvin-Green and Caitlin Mann each earned 9.850 scores, tying for fifth, while Kelsey Black earned a 9.80, good for seventh, and Lindsay Kazandjian tied for eighth (9.80).

In the second rotation, the Broncos moved to vault, earning a 49.350 team total. The score was good for second-best this season and tied for fourth-best in school history. Potvin-Green earned a career-best mark of 9.925, good for her fifth win on vault this season. The junior moves to a tie for eighth in Boise State season vault wins (5). Amanda Otuafi followed suit, earning a career-best of 9.90 to place second, while Perkins and Black, who also earned a career-best, scored 9.850 to tie for third. Erica Oswalt tied for sixth with a 9.825, while Mann earned a 9.80 to tie for eighth.

Moving to floor exercise, the Broncos earned a team score of 48.90 with Potvin-Green earning her second win of the night, scoring a 9.90. The win marked her second floor exercise win of the season. Otuafi and Perkins shared the second-place spot with 9.825 scores. Black tied for seventh (9.70) and Man tied for ninth (9.650) to round out the Broncos' line-up on floor.

The Broncos continued to make their mark on the history books, earning a 49.250 team total on the balance beam in the fourth rotation. The score ties for their season-best and ties for the seventh-best in school history. Potvin-Green earned another career-best score, a 9.90, to place second on beam. Bekah Gher earned a 9.875 to tie for third, while Kazandjian earned a 9.850 to place sixth. Glass earned a 9.825 to tie for seventh, while Alessandra Cinfio tied for ninth (9.80) and Caitlin Mann placed 12 th (9.70).

Mann placed second in the all-around competition, earning a career-best of 39.00.

Southern Utah earned scores of 48.950 on vault, 48.950 on bars, 49.300 on beam and 48.675 on floor. SUU's Alyssa Click earned the only individual title for the Thunderbirds on Friday, winning the balance beam title with a 9.925 score.

Boise State closes out their 2012 regular season next week when they host BYU on Friday, March 23. The meet will be held at Boise State's Taco Bell Arena at 7 p.m. and will include a "Senior Night" presentation following the meet.
