Bronco Gymnasts Drop Final Road Dual

CEDAR CITY, Utah Despite posting its third-highest score of the season, Friday, the Boise State University gymnastics team fell to Southern Utah University 195.175-192.750 at The Centrum.

The Broncos dropped to 6-11 this season and 1-6 in the Western Athletic Conference in what was Bronco head coach Sam Sandmire’s last road dual of her career.

The Broncos did get two individual victories on the evening, highlighted by senior Tara Oberg’s win on beam. Oberg posted a career high 9.900 to record her first-ever title on the event.

“Tara was our shining star tonight,” Sandmire said. “I am so proud of her. She has worked very hard her entire career, and to see her win tonight was special.”

Freshman DeAvera Todd captured her fifth vault title of the season with a 9.825. Todd’s five wins on the event are tied for fourth-most all time in a single season as well as seventh-most in a career.

Senior Kristin Aldrich finished second on two events, posting a 9.800 on vault and a 9.875 on beam. Freshman Yvette Leizorek led the Broncos on floor, finishing third with a score of 9.825.

“We had some great individual performances tonight,” Sandmire said. “As a team, we hit on vault but had to count falls on our other events. We are excited to come home for our last home meet of the year next week.”

The Broncos conclude their regular season, March 23, in a dual meet against WAC foe Utah State. More importantly, the meet will mark the final home meet of Sandmire’s 20-year Bronco career. The dual meet will also be senior night, so come out and thank Sandmire and the Broncos’ two seniors for their contributions to Boise State University.
