Broncos Face Tough Road Opponents in Denver, Iowa State

The 17th-ranked Boise State gymnastics team competes in its final regular season meet, Saturday, March 15 at 6 p.m. in Denver. The Broncos will take on 21st-ranked University of Denver as well as 42nd-ranked Iowa State University at Hamilton Gymnasium.

Boise State is tied with an 11-11-1 record with Denver in the all-time series, winning their last two meetings including a Jan. 17, 2014 match-up in Boise. The Broncos lead Iowa State 1-0 all-time, facing the Cyclones 25 years ago on Jan. 20, 1989.  

Boise State (13-3) enters its final week of regular season competition ranking 17th in the GymInfo National Weekly Poll according to regional qualifying scores (RQS). Nationally, the Broncos are 11th on the uneven bars, 15th on vault, 19th on floor exercise and tie for 31st on balance beam. The Broncos scored a season-high team total of 196.975 two weeks ago in their home meet against Iowa (Feb. 28). They hold an RQS of 196.185. 

Junior Ciera Perkins continues to hold the team's highest ranking by an individual sitting at 16th on the uneven bars. She also ranks 21st on floor exercise and 39th on vault. Junior Kelsey Morris also holds three rankings sitting at 37th in the all-around and at 57th on both the bars and floor. Sophomore Krystine Jacobsen ranks 78th on bars and 79th on balance beam, while senior Kelsey Black ties with her at 78th on bars and also ranks 80th on vault this week. Freshman Diana Mejia ranks 27th on bars, while senior Amanda Otuafi rounds out the ranked Broncos with a No. 56 spot on vault.

The Broncos close out their regular season on the road at Denver (March 15), followed by the Mountain Rim Gymnastic Championship at BYU (March 22) and NCAA Regional Championships (April 5). 

Denver (8-3) enters the week ranked 21st in the GymInfo National Team Rankings, while also ranking 17th on balance beam, 19th on uneven bars, 22nd on vault and 24th on floor exercise as a team. The Pioneers hold an RQS of 195.845 and have a season-best of 196.550 earned Jan. 31 at BYU.

Moriah Martin leads the Pioneers with the highest individual ranking, sitting at 20th in the all-around and uneven bars, as well as 28th on vault. Nina McGee also ranks on three events, sitting at 30th on floor exercise, 48th on balance beam and 52nd on bars. Melodie Pulgarin Linero joins the pair in the bars rankings at 78th, while Jorie Hall adds a 71st ranking on beam and Kaitlin Moorhead ranks 95th on vault.

Denver will meet Boise State in one week at the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Championship (March 22) hosted by BYU.

Iowa State (4-8) enters the meet as the 42nd-ranked team in the nation according to The Cyclones also hold team rankings of 27th on floor exercise, 38th on balance beam, 40th on uneven bars and 48th on vault. They hold an RQS of 194.460 and a season-high of 196.025 scored at home versus West Virginia, Feb. 7.

Caitlin Brown leads ISU with two individual top-100 national rankings this week. She sits at 45th in the all-around and 95th on floor exercise. Henrietta Green (72nd) and Milan Ivory (77th) join Brown in the floor rankings, while Camille Santerre-Gervais ranks 95th on the uneven bars.
