The 15th-ranked Boise State gymnastics team will head to Cedar City, Utah, for the regular-season finale against No. 21 Southern Utah with No. 19 California.
Friday will mark the third occasion this season when the Broncos and the Thunderbirds have met. Each team has won a contest, with Southern Utah topping Boise State at Utah in the first meet of the season. The Broncos were victorious at home the following week, beating Southern Utah in the Beauty & the Beast meet.
BOISE STATE BRONCOS (MRGC)
The Broncos rank 15th on vault (49.250), tenth on uneven bars (49.245), 18th on balance beam (48.945) and 29th on floor exercise (49.005) this week. The Broncos have scored a season-high team total of 196.800, done last week against Alaska-Anchorage at home. The Blue and Orange claim an RQS of 196.325, which leads the Mountain Rim and ranks third in the West. The Broncos claim five gymnasts ranking in the top-50 nationally through vault and uneven bars.
SOUTHERN UTAH FLIPPIN' BIRDS (MRGC)
CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS (PAC-12)
As of Feb. 22., women's gymnastics switched to Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to determine qualification for regional competiton. A team's RQS is based on a team's and all-around competitor's six best regular-season meet scores, with three being away meets. The high score is eliminated and then the remaining five scores are averaged.
RAISING THE BAR...WITH HORSEPOWER
Kelsey Morris and Ann Stockwell posted a pair of 9.925's on the apparatus against BYU. Morris scored her second 9.925 this season, with her first also coming against BYU. Freshman Ann Stockwell shattered her season-best mark. A Bronco gymnast has recorded a 9.925 or higher on vault in six of the nine meets this season.
Morris tabbed eight all-around wins last season, and has five to her name in 2015. She joins Julie Wagner (1993-94) as the only Broncos to post back-to-back seasons to rank in the top-10 in Boise State history.
Morris has 13 career event wins at all around and marked her career-best score (39.500) at last year's MRGC championships. That score ranks 11th all-time in Bronco history. Morris' 13 wins in the all-around gives her sole possesion of third place in Boise State history. She needs two more to tie Amy Glass' mark for second place.
