No. 29-ranked Bronco Gymnasts Host Second Home Meet against BYU, Cal State Fullerton

What’s Happening:

The No. 29-ranked Boise State gymnastics team is set to host their second of three home competitions this week, playing host to No. 41-ranked Cal State Fullerton and No. 52-ranked Brigham Young University on Fri., Mar. 6. The meet is schedule for 7 p.m. at Boise State’s Taco Bell Arena and will be parents’ night where all the gymnasts’ parents are honored.

Last Time Out:

Boise State scored their second-highest team score of the season, 195.325, at the Sacramento State Tri-Meet where they finished first and picked up two Western Athletic Conference wins. The Broncos dominated the competition winning all four events as a team as well as earning individual titles on vault, beam and floor. The Broncos also posted their season-high team score on floor of 49.225.

 

All-Time Series:

Boise State enters the weekend, leading Cal State Fullerton in the all-time series, but trailing BYU.

 

The Broncos lead Cal State Fullerton 26-18, winning the last four meetings. The Broncos defeated the Titans earlier this year at the UCLA Quad-Meet.

 

The BYU Cougars lead Boise State 34-7 in the all-time series, including a two win streak in their most recent meetings. The Cougars defeated the Broncos just two weeks ago at the BYU Quad-Meet.

 

Boise State:

The Broncos jumped five spots in the rankings this week to No. 29 after recording their second-best score of the season at the Sacramento State Tri-Meet last weekend. Boise State now holds a season record of 12-4 overall and 6-1 against WAC opponents. The Broncos hold the sit at No. 26 in the national team uneven bars rankings as well as the floor exercise rankings. They also hold the No. 27 spot in the national team vault rankings as well as ranking No. 33 on balance beam.

 

Individually, the Broncos boast four gymnasts in the nation’s top-100 rankings. Redshirt junior Taylor Jacob leads the way, tying for No. 28 on bars. Redshirt freshman Chelsee Apple is tied for No. 64 on vault while freshman Lindsay Kazandjian is tied for No. 75 on beam. Sophomore Sarah Smith ranks among the nation’s best on floor, tying for No. 82 in the event’s rankings.

Brigham Young University:

BYU enters the meet as the No. 52-ranked team in the country. They have a season-high score of 192.850. The Cougars hold their highest team event ranking on beam, sitting at No. 45. They also rank No. 49 on vault, No. 55 on bars and No. 59 on floor as a team.

 

In the BYU Quad-Meet on Feb. 23, the Cougars placed second in the meet with a 192.575 while the Broncos placed third with a 191.950. In their most recent competition, the Cougars scored a 189.125 in a home dual meet with Southern Utah University.

 

No Cougars hold rankings in the nation’s top-100 spots.

 

Cal State Fullerton:

Cal State Fullerton enters the week as the No. 41-ranked team in the nation. The Titans hold a season-high of 193.875 which they scored on Jan. 23 at home. In their most recent meet, the Titans scored a 193.275 in a dual at Missouri. CSUF ranks as high as No. 25 in the national team event rankings, ranking No. 25 on vault. They also rank No. 35 on bars, No. 43 on floor and No. 55 on beam as a team.

 

Individually, the Titans have only one gymnast who ranks among the nation’s top-100 gymnasts. Alaina Baker ranks on four events, sitting as high as a tie for No. 40 on floor. She also ranks No. 53 in the all-around, is tied for No. 68 on vault and sits at No. 100 on bars.
