Broncos Host BYU, Utah State in Second Home Meet of 2010

What's Happening:
The Boise State gymnastics team (9-1, 4-0 WAC) returns home for their second of three home competitions this season. The No. 29-ranked Broncos will host No. 33-ranked Brigham Young and No. 49-ranked Utah State at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1 at Taco Bell Arena. They gymnasts are encouraging fans to bring cans to donate to their canned food drive that will benefit the Idaho Food Bank. Collection bins will be placed by the front doors where fans can leave their donations.

Tickets for Friday's event can be purchased at the door for $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for juniors and seniors.

Last Time Out:
The Broncos posted a school record on vault as a team earning a 49.350 at the Southern Utah dual meet on Feb. 26. They also earned the 12th best overall score in school history with a 196.10. Although the Broncos competed well, junior Hannah Redmon was the only Bronco to earn an event win, capturing the vault title with a score of 9.925. The effort earned her a third WAC Specialist of the Week honor this season alone.     

All-Time Series:
Looking at the all-time records alone, the Broncos enter this weekend as the underdog against both BYU and USU. The Broncos, however, have strengthened in recent history, making them the favorite to win this weekend's meet. BYU holds a 34-8 lead over Boise State, but the Broncos earned the win in their last meeting on Mar. 6, 2009. Utah State holds a 54-21 lead over the Broncos, but Boise State has earned eight-straight wins over the Aggies, including a win on Jan. 29, 2010.  

Athlete of the Week:
Junior Hannah Redmon earned her fourth WAC award this season after being named WAC Specialist of the Week for Feb. 22-28. She also earned WAC Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 11-17 and Feb. 8-14 as well as Specialist of the Week for the week of Feb. 1-7 for her first awards this season. Freshman Hailey Gaspar earned a WAC Specialist of the Week honor for the week of Jan. 25-31.  

Making a Mark in the Record Books:
As a team the Broncos set a school record with a score of 49.350 on vault on Feb. 26, 2010. In the same meet they were able to earn an overall score of 196.10, good for 12th on the all-time team scores list at Boise State. Four current Broncos hold spots in the all-time records for Boise State. Junior Hannah Redmon holds the No. 6 spot on the all-time career wins in the all-around chart with six total, while also sitting in a tie for No. 3 on all-time career wins on floor with 12 career wins. She also is ranked No. 8 on the all-time season floor wins chart and the No. 4 spot in career vault wins with 12. Redshirt senior Taylor Jacob sits in a tie for third in all-time career wins on bars with 13 while junior Kelsey Lang sits in a tie for No. 8 in career beam wins, totaling five in her career. She has also earned three wins on beam this season, tying her for No. 9 on the all-time season beam wins chart.

Boise State "Broncos":
The Broncos jump back into the rankings this week, earning a No. 29 spot in the overall team rankings. They also sit at No. 16 as a team on vault, No. 33 on bars, No. 34 on floor and No. 37 on beam in the national rankings. Boise State now holds sole possession of the WAC regular season standings after defeating SUU last week in a dual meet. They are now 4-0 in WAC competitions and 9-1 overall.

Broncos In the Rankings:
The Broncos re-enter the rankings this week with only two athletes holding spots in the nation's top-100 spots in their respective events. Hannah Redmon is ranked No. 26 on vault and is tied for No. 71 on floor while Amy Glass holds the No. 48 spot in the all-around and No. 35 spot on vault.  

Brigham Young "Cougars":
Brigham Young enters the weekend with a 2-8 record on the season, but have posted an impressive 195.350 on Feb. 19 against Utah State.

The Cougars enter the meet ranked No. 33 in the nation, while also ranking No. 32 on vault, No. 30 on bars, No. 27 on beam and No. 42 on floor as a team.

They have two athletes ranked in the nation's top-100, including Megan Donahue who is tied for No. 59 on bars and tied for No. 32 on beam. Danielle Goldman holds the No. 85 (tied) spot on floor for the Cougars.

Utah State "Aggies":
Utah State enters the weekend with a 1-12 record (0-4 WAC) on the season. Their best score of the season has been a 190.725, which was also scored on Feb. 19 against BYU.

The Aggies rank No. 49 overall in the nation while also holding a No. 48 rank on vault, tied for No. 44 on bars, tied for No. 45 on beam and No. 59 on floor.

The Aggies have only one top-100 nationally ranked athlete this week with Heather Heinrich holding a No. 52 spot in the all-around rankings.
