Redmon Earns Third WAC Gymnast of the Week Honor of 2008

DENVER, Colo. Boise State’s Hannah Redmon has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the week of Feb. 18-24. The honor is the third for Redmon this season and marks the eighth (out of 14 possible) WAC award for the Broncos this season.

Redmon, a freshman from Reno, Nev. (Reed HS) won both the vault and floor exercise this past week, earning her fourth win on vault and fifth win on floor this season. She posted a score of 9.825 on vault and 9.875 on floor in a dual win over Sacramento State. Redmon also won her second all-around title of the season, posting a score of 39.00, just .125 off her career best.

San Jose State’s Shanice Howard was named and WAC Specialist of the Week for the week of Feb. 18-24. Howard, a freshman from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. (Tesoro HS) won the floor with a season-best mark of 9.875, helping the Spartans stay undefeated at home with a victory over UC Davis. Howard’s score was the highest score of the meet by any competitor. She also added a score of 9.700 on vault.

Other Gymnast of the Week nominees included: Sacramento State junior Marina Borisova scored a 38.875 in the all-around last week ... San Jose State junior Veronica Porte won the all-around with a 38.850 in a dual meet against UC Davis ... Southern Utah junior Katie Hicks scored a 9.600 or higher in three events at nationally-ranked Utah.

Other Specialist of the Week nominees included: Boise State sophomore Taylor Jacob tied for first on bars with a 9.850 in a dual with Sacramento State ... Sacramento State senior Melissa Genovese scored a 9.825 to tie for first on beam at Boise State ... Southern Utah sophomore Elise Wheeler scored a 9.800 on vault and a 9.825 on floor at Utah ... Utah State freshman Nicole Simoneau tied for fourth on bars with a 9.825 at nationally-ranked Utah, finishing as the only non-Utah gymnast in the top six spots and good for USU’s best place in the meet.
