Gymnast Shaniece Craft Garners WAC Specialist of the Week Honors

DENVER Boise State’s Shaniece Craft has been named the WAC’s Specialist of the Week for Feb. 9-15 after a career-setting performance of 9.90 on vault in Sunday’s UCLA Quad-Meet.

 

Craft, a senior from Littleton, Colo. (Arapahoe HS) set a new career high with a 9.900 on vault at the UCLA quad meet. She becomes just the 16th Bronco to ever post a 9.900 on vault and ranks No. 11 on the Boise State all-time top vault scores chart. Craft now holds a season average of 9.825 on the event.

 

San Jose State’s Thomasina Wallace and Southern Utah’s Jenna Vogt have been named Western Athletic Conference Co-Gymnasts of the week.

 

Wallace, a freshman from San Jose, Calif. (Diamond Ranch HS) won the all-around at Sacramento State with a 39.225, which ties her for the seventh-best all-around score in San Jose State history. Wallace also won on bars with a 9.900 to tie her season high on the apparatus. She also won the floor with a season-best 9.875 and placed second on vault with a 9.775. Wallace’s efforts helped SJSU to a win over Sacramento State, improving the team’s record to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the WAC.   

 

Vogt, a sophomore from White Bear Lake, Minn. (Eagan HS) finished as the top all-around competitor for Southern Utah for a second consecutive week, scoring a 39.225. The mark is a career high for the sophomore and also secured the all-around title as SUU posted a 194.875 score to defeat Brigham Young. Vogt also claimed individual titles on bars (9.825) and floor with a meet-high 9.875.

 

Other Gymnast of the Week nominees included: Boise State freshman Lindsay Kazandjian; Cal State Fullerton sophomore Alaina Baker; and Utah State junior Heather Heinrich.

 

Other Specialist of the Week nominees included: Cal State Fullerton junior Katie Turcotte; Sacramento State sophomore Alycia Chan; and Utah State sophomore Jackie Dillon.
