Gymnasts Redmon, Ward Sweep WAC Athlete of the Week Titles

DENVER, Colo. Boise State’s Hannah Redmon and Lindsay Ward have been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week and Specialist of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 4-10.

Redmond, a freshman from Reno, Nev. (Reed HS) won both the vault and floor exercise this week, posting career highs in both events of 9.90 each. Her 9.90 on vault moves her to the top of the charts in the WAC with the highest score in the event, while her 9.90 on floor ties her for second in the WAC. She also holds the No. 21 spot in the national rankings on floor exercise. She finished second in the all-around this week with a 38.875 score. The WAC Gymnast of the Week award is Redmond's second this season after earning the award for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3.

Ward, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev. (Las Vegas HS) earned her second victory this season on bars, putting up a 9.90 score on Sunday to win the event by .750. This is the second time this season Ward has hit the 9.90 mark on bars. She ranks 15th in the nation on uneven bars according to GymInfo.com and leads the WAC on bars with a 9.856 average (tied for the highest mark in the WAC at 9.90). Ward earns her second WAC Specialist of the Week award after earning the title for the week of Jan. 21-27.

Other Gymnast of the Week nominees included: Cal State Fullerton freshman Shelly Cooper finished second on bars (9.60) and third on floor exercise (9.65) ... San Jose State junior Veronica Porte won the all-around at a dual meet at Boise State with a season-high 39.025... Utah State freshman Lyndsie Boone competed in the all-around for the first time this season on Saturday, finishing fifth with a 38.475, as USU finished third in a quad meet Saturday at Denver, finishing behind sixth-ranked Oklahoma and No. 13 Denver.

Other Specialist of the Week nominees included: Cal State Fullerton freshman Maddie Steinauer tied her career high with a 9.85 to win vault at UC Davis ... Utah State freshman Nicole Simoneau set a new career high on bars with a 9.850 last Monday at Southern Utah and then tied her season high with a 9.850 on Saturday at Denver quad.
