Boise State Gymnastics Dominates San Jose State, 194.375-191.600
BOISE, Idaho The No. 19 Boise State gymnastics team played host to Western Athletic Conference opponent No. 37 San Jose State University in their second of six home meets on Sunday evening at BSU’s Taco Bell arena. The Broncos (5-1, 4-1 WAC) topped the Spartans with a convincing 194.375-191.600 point spread. The team total goes in the record books as the Broncos’ third highest score this season.

Event-by-event the Broncos were once again dominant, winning all four events and finishing with the top mark on vault, bars, beam, and floor. The only individual title for the Spartans was a win in the all-around. The Broncos were not only able to win all four events, but set a season high on floor with a 49.050 score. BSU was also near season highs on vault (48.875) and beam (48.500), but uncharacteristically struggled on bars with a 47.950 score.

Proving to be a consistent leader in the Bronco lineup, freshman Hannah Redmon won two events, setting career best marks in both, while also finishing in second in the all-around with a 38.875 score. Redmon was able to post career bests and team highs on vault and floor with scores of 9.90 each. She scored a 9.475 on bars to place sixth in the event and 9.60 on beam to take the seventh spot. Redmon moved into a tie for seventh in the BSU all-time individual records for single season wins on floor with four (she has won on floor in all four meets this season).

Bronco senior Lindsay Ward shared the leadership role with Redmon, snagging wins on bars and beam. Ward matched her season best score of 9.90 on bars while also posting a season high of 9.875 on beam. Her win on beam puts her in a tie for eighth in the BSU all-time single season beam wins while moving her No. 1 spot of career beam wins higher with 16 total wins. On bars, Ward also moved to a tie for first in the all-time career bar wins with a total of 14, sharing the honor with former All-American Julie Wagner.

On vault, junior Shaniece Craft finished just behind Redmon tying her season best in the event with a 9.825. Freshman Amy Glass took fourth on vault with a 9.750 while sophomore Yvette Leizorek snagged the fifth spot with a season best 9.725. Junior Amber Neroes was able to round out the top-6 spots with a 9.675 score in the event.

Although the Broncos struggled a bit on bars, an event that they rank No. 11 on nationally, Ward was able to lead the way with redshirt sophomore Taylor Jacob sweeping up second place with a solid 9.825 score. Glass was able to finish in fifth with a 9.575 while Redmon rounded out the top-6 finishers.

Showing improvement on the beam, the Broncos were able to finish with three in the top-6. Ward again led the way with her first place finish, while Jacob took over the fourth place spot with a 9.775. Freshman Kelsey Lang was able to sneak into the top-6 with her score of 9.70, tying her career best in the event.

In their strongest event of the night, BSU swept the top-3 spots on floor with Redmon earning the top spot and Lang finishing in second with a career best of 9.850. Smith tied for third on floor with a 9.80 while Jacob tied for fifth with a season best 9.775. Sophomore Ruthie Pennington finished just outside of the top-6 tying her season best of 9.725 to place eighth and support a season high team score in the event.

In the all-around competition, Redmon finished second while SJSU’s Veronica Porte earned the title with a 39.025 score.

The Broncos will hit the road next weekend to take on WAC opponent Cal State-Fullerton in a 3 p.m. (MT) meet on Sunday, February 17. The Broncos will return home on Friday, February 22 in a 7 p.m. dual with Sacramento State.

Notes: Redshirt freshman Sarah Smith finished in eighth on beam with a career best of 9.550 ... the Broncos were able to earn four career best marks and well as bettering or tying 11 season best marks ... in each of their four meets this season, the Broncos have been able to better at least one season best in one event.
