Gymnastics Cleans Up in MRGC Awards

LOGAN, Utah – For the second-straight week, the Boise State gymnastics team swept the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference weekly awards. Freshman Shani Remme was named the MRGC Gymnast of the Week and senior Maddie Krentz was named the Specialist of the week.

The Broncos traveled to Southern Utah and defeated the Thunderbirds 196.250 – 195.700 this past Friday night in Cedar City, Utah. Shani Remme won the all-around title for the second time this season after posting a 39.325, giving her the MRGC Gymnast of the Week honors for the second time of the year, as well.

The Loomis, Calif., native recorded a 9.775 on the uneven bars, a 9.8 on a vault, and two 9.875’s on both floor and beam. She leads the conference in the all-around with a 39.300 average, along with being the No. 3 gymnast in the MRGC in floor (9.837 avg.) and beam (9.825 avg.). Nationally, her all-around average puts her in a tie for 17th in the category.

Krentz garnered a 9.925 on floor on her way to being named MRGC Specialist of the Week for the second-straight week. The Cave Creek, Ariz., native also competed on bars (9.8) and vault (9.8) to help the Broncos to the victory. She is tied for second in the conference on floor with a 9.888 average, also putting her tied for 21st in the country.

Despite improving their team score season average to 196.194, the Broncos dropped one spot in the Road To Nationals Rankings and enter the week as the No. 10 team in the country. For each event respective to the national rankings, the Blue and Orange are No. 11 on vault (49.038 avg.), No. 8 on the uneven bars (49.163 avg.), No. 16 on beam (48.875 avg.) and No. 9 on floor (49.119).

To put the Broncos’ success in perspective, their 196.194 average is the highest average through the first four meets of a season in school history. They are 6-0 for the first time since 2010, and a perfect 3-0 in MRGC play to sit atop the conference.

Boise State will take their perfect record and No. 10 ranking to San Jose State this Friday when they take on the Spartans on Friday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. (MT).
