Bronco Gymnastics Adds Two Standouts to 2008-09 Roster

BOISE, Idaho Boise State’s 2007-08 gymnastics team is off to a solid start under the direction of first year co-head coaches Tina Bird and Neil Resnick. The duo, who took over the head position in June 2007, are watching their first recruiting class blossom and are already working towards their second outstanding class.

Bird and Resnick welcome the addition of two all-around gymnasts, Cristy Dahlquist and Lindsay Kazandjian who committed to the Broncos during the early signing period in mid-November. Both highly touted athletes, Dahlquist and Kazandjian will join the Broncos for the 2008-09 season.

Dahlquist, a Tucson, Ariz. (Salpointe Catholic HS) native joins the Broncos after competing as a Level 10 national participant in 2007. Competing for the club team, Gym World East under head coach Gina Mueller-Martin, Dahlquist earned the Arizona State Champion title in All-Around in 2007. She went on to finish in the Top-20 at the Junior Olympic National Championships in Cincinnati in May 2007. Although Dahlquist competes in the all-around, she is strongest on floor exercise, an event she earned a score of 9.75 on in her J.O. competition.

“Cristy is a really consistent competitor,” explained Resnick. “She’s competing in high level regional and national level competitions showing she’s a solid athlete. Here at Boise State she will perform on all four events. She is a very steady competitor and handles pressure very well.”

Kazandjian, a native of Las Vegas, Nev. will join Dahlquist in the Broncos all-around line-up for the 2008-09 season. Kazandjian also competed as a Level 10 gymnast under coaches Cassie Rice and Jill Enrietta of the Las Vegas based club, Gymcats. Kazandjian’s strongest event is the floor exercise; however Resnick looks at her as an extremely talented all-around gymnast.

“Lindsay is absolutely one of the best jumpers and most powerful athletes I have seen,” said Resnick. “She will continue to improve and develop as a collegiate athlete and reach her peak. She is physically loaded with talent and will have an immediate impact on floor exercise and vault, but will likely compete in all four events as well.”

The Broncos’ welcome the addition of their two newest signees and hope to add more athletes to their 2008-09 recruiting class during the spring.
