Bronco Gymnasts Finish Third

SAN JOSE, Calif. Although the Boise State University gymnastics team scored a season high 190.700 in a quadrangular meet Friday evening at Spartan Gym, the Broncos were only able to come away with a third place finish.

The Broncos (1-4, 0-3 Western Athletic Conference) posted their first win of the season over Seattle Pacific University (189.875), but were downed by conference foes Utah State University (194.225) and host school San Jose State University (193.025).

“We have had to make a lot of adjustments already this season for myriad reasons, and the gymnasts we have competing out on the floor are giving it their all,” head coach Sam Sandmire said. “We will continue to make adjustments, and we will continue to rally and improve every meet.”

The Broncos posted their highest team total of the season on both floor (47.975) and beam (47.375).

Freshman DeAvera Todd finished third on vault (9.800), marking the third time in as many meets that the newcomer has finished in the top three. Fellow freshman Yvette Leizorek finished tied for second on bars (9.775)

On beam, senior Kristin Aldrich finished second with a score of 9.775, while sophomore Tessa Campbell, competing in the event for the first time in her career, scored a 9.725.

The Broncos continue their road trip Sunday, with a meet against Sacramento State, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (PT). The competition is Sacramento State’s “Think Pink” meet, and much like the Broncos’ “Pink-Out,” all competitors will be wearing pink uniforms to support breast cancer awareness.
