Broncos Face Utah State, Southern Utah on the Road

What's Happening:
The No. 13-ranked Boise State gymnastics team hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Logan, Utah, to take on Utah State (#40) and Southern Utah (#27).

The Broncos compete in their first triangular, Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 p.m. (Mountain) at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The meet will be Utah State's first home meet of the season.

Tickets can be purchased at the Utah State Box Office the day of the event. Prices are $5 for adults and $1 for youth (ages 3-14).

All-Time Series:
Boise State and Utah State have been long-time rivals holding a 54-26 all-time series record in favor of the Aggies. Although USU has the upper hand in the long run, Boise State has been the dominant team more recently, winning their last 13 meetings, including at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on March 19, 2011. The Broncos also faced Southern Utah on the same date, earning their second-straight win over the Thunderbirds. Overall, Boise State leads SUU 25-19 in their all-time series.

Boise State "Broncos":
Boise State (2-0) hosted Sacramento State during the Beauty and the Beast competition, Jan. 20. The No. 17 Broncos earned a season-high and 16-best all-time score of 196.175 to top the Hornets who had a score of 191.875. The Broncos earned season highs on all four events as a team (vault - 49.150; bars - 49.175; beam - 48.775; floor - 49.075), while also winning three individual events and the all-around. Brittany Potvin-Green ended the day with the all-around and vault titles, while Lindsay Kazandjian and Kelsey Morris shared the bars title and Amanda Otuafi won on floor.

The Broncos rank No. 13 this week (195.288 average), while also sitting at No. 12 on vault (49.038 avg.), tied for No. 6 on bars (49.125 avg.), No. 20 on beam (48.450 avg.) and tied for No. 24 on floor (48.675 avg.). Nine Broncos hold top-100 national rankings in their respective events.

Potvin-Green is tied for No. 34 on vault (9.850), tied for No. 52 on bars, tied for No. 39 on beam (9.80) and tied for No. 11 in the all-around (39.350). Otuafi also ranks on vault (tied for 57th, 9.825), while Hailey Gaspar is tied for No. 93 (9.799) on the event. On bars Ciera Perkins ties for No. 9 (9.863), Lindsay Kazandjian ranks No. 23 (tied, 9.838), Kelsey Morris is tied for No. 31 (9.825) and Kelsey Black shares the No. 52 spot (9.80) with Potvin-Green. On beam, Kazandjian is tied for No. 78 (9.750), while Bekah Gher and Gaspar tie for No. 91 (9.738).

Utah State "Aggies":
Utah State enters their third meet of the season with a 1-3 record.  Most recently they traveled to Denton, Texas, to take on Texas Women's University, Centenary College and Oklahoma, scoring their season-high 192.325 and placing third. Sarah Landes led the team with a second-place finish in the all-around (38.925).

This week the Aggies enter competition with a No. 40 ranking (192.125 avg.), while also sitting at No. 49 on vault (48.075), No. 20 on bars (48.663), No. 55 on beam (47.10) and tied for 40 th on floor (48.258) as a team.

Landes leads the team with three top-100 national rankings. Her highest is a tie for No. 45 in the all-around (38.875), while also tying for No. 93 on bars (9.763) and No. 99 on beam (9.725). Paige Jones ties for No. 57 on vault (9.825), No. 70 on floor (9.80) and No. 74 in the all-around (38.525), while Rebecca Holliday and Amelia Montoya tie for No. 98 on bars (9.750).

Southern Utah "Thunderbirds":
Southern Utah enters the week with a 0-2 record after close losses to Missouri (Jan. 13) and BYU (Jan. 20). SUU has earned a season-high of 194.050, doing so in their most recent meet against the Cougars where junior Alyssa Click took home the bars, floor and all-around titles. The Jan. 27 meet at Utah State will be their first road meet.

The Thunderbirds enter the week with a No. 27 national ranking (193.675 avg.), while also ranking No. 29 on vault (48.588), No. 33 on bars (48.188), No. 16 on beam (48.580) and No. 36 on floor (48.350) as a team.

Individually Click leads the way with a No. 33 (tied) rank in the all-around (39.00), while also tying for No. 4 on beam (9.888) and No. 13 on floor (9.863). Michaela Chernoch ranks No. 83 in the all-around (38.40), while sitting in a tie for No. 57 on floor (9.813). Lauren Jeffrey also ranks in the all-around, sitting at No. 99 (38.20), while also tying for No. 76 on bars (9.775). Brittney Jensen holds two rankings, tying for No. 70 on vault (9.813) and No. 70 on floor (9.80). On bars Jamie Armijo ties for No. 52 (9.80), while Rochelle Bernier ties for 93 rd (9.763). On beam Anna Schumacher ties for No. 22 (9.825), while Caitlin Kennedy ties for No. 99 (9.725) to round out the ranked Thunderbirds.

A Look at the Broncos' Season:
Boise State will face four opponents in its 2012 campaign who sat among the top-25 in the preseason rankings, including the No. 1 preseason team in the nation. The Broncos will face two tough opponents at the Chicago Style meet on Feb. 10 in Chicago, taking on No. 1 UCLA and No. 15 Illinois. They opened their season at home on Jan. 13 with a win over No. 16 Washington and will face No. 7 Oregon State on the road on Feb. 24.
