Mejia Earns MRGC Weekly Honor
Jan. 16, 2017

LOGAN, Utah – The Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference announced the weekly award winners for week two of the 2017 season, and Boise State’s Diana Mejia was named the Uneven Bars Specialist of the Week. The senior captain earned a 9.9 on the apparatus to lead the way for the Broncos (195.300) as they were able to defeat Stanford (193.300), UC Davis (193.275) and Yale (188.900) last Friday night on the road in Davis, Calif.

Mejia’s 9.9 was the highest event score for any gymnast at the quad meet, and it also sparked a turning point for Boise State in what was a competitive meet at the halfway point. The Blue and Orange (97.350) only led UC Davis (97.325) by a slim margin after two events, but the Broncos were able to post two 48.975’s on their final two events (uneven bars and balance beam) to cement the victory.

The weekly award is the first for the Vancouver, Wash., native, but certainly not the first major conference accomplishment on uneven bars. She was named first-team All-MRGC on uneven bars in both 2015 and 2016, and was also named the 2014 MRGC Co-Freshman of the Year in part because of her work on uneven bars and balance beam.

At the conclusion of the second week, Boise State is ranked No. 15 in the country according to the Road To Nationals weekly rankings. The Broncos are the highest ranked team in the MRGC, but will face a pair of top-10 teams this Friday when they take on No. 5 Utah and No. 7 Denver.

The meet will take place on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. The meet will broadcast on a stream provided by Utah, complete with live results.
