No. 15 Bronco Gymnastics Host Utah State Friday

The No. 15 Boise State gymnastics team opens its 2013 season on Friday, Jan. 18, against fellow Western Athletic Conference team Utah State. The meet will be held at Boise State's Taco Bell Arena and is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.    

Tickets can be purchased at the Boise State Taco Bell Arena Box Office the day of the event. Prices are as follows: Adults, $6; Junior/Senior, $4; Boise State Students get in free with valid ID. You can also purchase a Bronco Sports Pass for $50, granting access to all regular season home games for volleyball, soccer, wrestling, women's basketball, gymnastics, outdoor track and field and softball. The Broncos will welcome gymnastics alumni to the meet for the "Welcome Back Gymnastics Alumni" event. Fans are encouraged to attend the meet in order to collect the first installment of 2013 gymnastics trading cards. Boise State's freshman class will be the first group of 2013 gymnastics trading cards released.

The Broncos and Aggies will for the first of three times this season. Boise State will take on the Aggies in Logan, Utah, on March 15, while the two teams will compete in Cedar City, Utah, on March 23 at the WAC Championship meet.

Entering this Friday's competition, Utah State holds the overall series lead 55-27 over the Broncos. Boise State won the most recent meeting on March 2, 2012, 196.125-192.750.

Boise State enters their first competition of the season with a preseason rank of No. 15 nationally, as well as the top pick in the WAC. The Broncos ended their 2012 season as the No. 14-ranked team nationally.

The Broncos welcome back three seniors in Cristy Dahlquist, Brittany Potvin-Green and Erin Wippermann. The junior class of Kelsey Black, Alessandra Cinfio and Amanda Otuafi will be joined by the sophomores Caitlin Mann, Kelsey Morris and Ciera Perkins as additional returnees. Boise State welcomes six freshmen to this season's roster: Caitlin Fovenyessy, McKenna Hutcheson, Krystine Jacobsen, Maddie Krentz, Molly McFarland and Marissa Wossner.

This week's meet against Utah State will mark the first of four home meets for the Broncos this season. Additional meets will be held on Feb. 1 vs. BYU (Beauty & the Beast I), Feb. 10 vs. Southeast Missouri (Beauty & the Beast II) and March 1 vs. Southern Utah.

Utah State enters the weekend with a No. 56 ranking and a 0-1 record after falling in their season opener to BYU in Provo, Utah. The Aggies' earned a team score of 189.425, while BYU earned a 194.075.

Sarah Landes earned the team's highest score of the day, scoring a 9.80 on the uneven bars. Paige Jones led the Aggies in the all-around, earning a 38.80 score which included three events with 9.70+ scores.

The Aggies tie for No. 52 nationally as a team on vault, sit at No. 29 on bars, No. 42 on beam and No. 70 on floor. Individually, Landes ties for a No. 68 national rank on bars, while Jones ties for No. 89 on floor. Jones ranks No. 51 in the all-around, while Landes sits at No. 60, Destiny Ezell at No. 95 and Hayley Sanzotti at No. 100 this week.
