Broncos Ranked 11th in National Weekly Poll

BOISE, Idaho – After a remarkable season-opening meet Friday, the Boise State gymnastics team was rewarded with an 11th-place rank in the latest GymInfo national rankings released Monday. This is the third time the Broncos have ranked 11th in the nation (including Feb. 14, 2011 and April 4, 2011), the highest rank the program has ever held.

The Broncos set a school record season-opener team score of 195.850 at the University of Utah’s Desert First Duel which also included BYU and Southern Utah. Boise State placed second to Utah who won the meet with a score of 196.650, tying them for fourth in this week’s team rankings.

As a team Boise State ranks as high as eighth on the uneven bars (49.20), while tying for ninth on vault (49.125), tying for 14th on floor exercise (48.950) and ranking 22nd on balance beam (48.575) after the first week of the season.

Sophomore Krystine Jacobsen holds the highest individual ranking on this week’s national list, tying for 11th on beam (9.875). Marissa Wossner and Paige Urquhart join her on the beam list, tied at 36th (9.825), while Diana Mejia is tied for 92nd (9.750).

Ciera Perkins also holds a solid ranking, sitting in a tie for 17th on bars (9.875). Mejia and Jacobsen tie for 36th (9.850), while Kelsey Black ties for 56th (9.825) and Kelsey Morris ties for 73rd (9.80).

Black and Urquhart lead the Broncos on vault, tying for 31st (9.850), while Amanda Otuafi sits in a tie for 53rd (9.825). Morris and Perkins tie for 74th (9.80) and Maddie Krentz snuck in the nation’s top-100 on vault ranking 97th (9.775).

Tied for 35th, Morris leads the Broncos on floor (9.850), while Perkins ties for 65th (9.825) and Krentz ties for 85th (9.80). Morris was the lone all-around competitor for Boise State in their first meet, ranking 44th (38.750) nationally.

The Broncos continue their season Friday, Jan. 17 with the 12th annual Beauty and the Beast competition where there will host Denver and BYU. The Bronco wrestlers will host North Dakota State in a 7 p.m. start at Taco Bell Arena.
